Dave's (mostly flying) blog: Float Rating and FAA Certificate Action
http://palmerdave.blogspot.com/2013/10/float-rating-and-faa-certificate-action.html
Dave's (mostly flying) blog. Click on photos to enlarge. Wednesday, October 30, 2013. Float Rating and FAA Certificate Action. I waited a year to tell THIS story :-). I had a great time getting my float rating. I flew this Supercub out of Laughlin, NV/Bullhead City, AZ down the Colorado river, landing and taking off all day. It really was fun, in shorts and Tevas, 85F with the door open, wading through the warm water. :-). Me "Do I get to choose? 2 Subsequent to emailing a photo of my temp certificate to...

Dave's (mostly flying) blog: Beer Engine Education
http://palmerdave.blogspot.com/2014/06/beer-engine-education.html
Dave's (mostly flying) blog. Click on photos to enlarge. Saturday, June 7, 2014. I was recently in England and had an epiphany about the beer engine. I felt like a rube in the Continent - I should have known this a long time ago :-). They use a 'tap' to dispense carbonated lagers from kegs - like we're used to seeing. They use the 'handle' (beer engine) to dispense ales from casks. She was aghast when I told her we dispensed force carbonated kegged ales from 'taps' in the US; "Like a LAH-GAH? I recently ...

Dave's (mostly flying) blog: August 2011
http://palmerdave.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Dave's (mostly flying) blog. Click on photos to enlarge. Wednesday, August 31, 2011. We rolled out of Nampa, ID just after sunrise and headed roughly toward Winnemucca in case we weren't sure we could make Reno without fuel. But we did fine despite the heat and humidity that limited us to about 110 mph sometimes at 8500 to clear mountains. Stead was hot and a lot quieter than during the races. There were still cool planes parked about. Somewhere over the central CA valley. It was hot even at 9000 feet.

Dave's (mostly flying) blog. Click on photos to enlarge. Saturday, July 9, 2011. Earl Brothers Devils Pass Bike Ride. My youngest brother, Robert, wanted all the brothers to get together for a trip. He decided we should ride our bikes to the Devils Pass cabin on the Resurrection trail, near Kenai Lake. One of the brothers couldn't make it, but the penultimate and ultimate youngest (Howard and Robert) and I could. Almost above the treeline. About 3 miles to go, I think. Break at the top of the Pass. We wa...

Dave's (mostly flying) blog. Click on photos to enlarge. Monday, August 19, 2013. I'm a little embarrassed by it, but I love when the firefighters show up. Lots of fires this year led to a banner crop of airplanes. It's hard to see but in addition to the three Convair 580's there's an Electra in the back. Not firefighting, but it was fun to see this Pawnee banner tow working out of PAAQ for a while. He's got it made - basically tow banners pretty much wherever he wants in AK for the summer.

Dave's (mostly flying) blog. Click on photos to enlarge. Tuesday, February 26, 2013. I'll just link to Jake's blog because he does a much better job than I. When he says the plane is unbroken for the first time, that's a bit overstated but we have been "AOG" in AZ a lot - mostly TW problems but most recently a blown brake caliper. Hopefully we've got it all worked out and it will be back to it's old reliable self :-). Posted by Dave Earl. Tuesday, February 26, 2013. March 4, 2013 at 2:51 PM.

Dave's (mostly flying) blog. Click on photos to enlarge. Saturday, December 22, 2012. Northbound 2012 Final Push Home. Day Six, Fly to Abbotsford. We briefly considered going back to Oly (which was nice), but figured we'd find somewhere near the border to regroup and try to go to Abbotsford instead of Penticton. I took a look at the nearest airports on the GPS and saw Arlington which sounded familiar. It had gas so we headed in. And found ourselves smack in the middle of a flyin! Then we went up to Macke...

We're planning a different route than we came down, but last time the "plan" fell apart in less than two days so we'll see. weather could push us east again. We're planning to visit friends and relatives (that are friends TOO! The SPOT tracker link on top left of this page and http:/ tiny. Will work. We'll probably post on this blog ( davidearl.com.
