Wanted to share an Oxalis for St. Patty's Day. The above is Redwood Sorrel (. Which is native to the Pacific Northwest. This plant is a shade lover and actually folds it's leaves down in direct sun. They quickly reopen once the shade returns. Native American Indians enjoyed the leaves of this sorrel. Happy St. Patricks Day!

This is a blog about gardening, where I'll share pictures of my garden, offer thoughts and tips, and hopefully inspire. Thursday, January 31, 2008. A BEAUTY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. One of these plants is the Cotoneaster dammeri that I have several grouping of throughout the front gardens. I planted these roughly 3 years ago as a under study to the foundation plantings and they have worked very well. Coral Beauty is an appropriate name for this plant because it really is a beauty throughout the whole year.

In a continued series on potted bulbs I wanted to elaborate on Hyacinths. I generally grow several pots of Hyacinths a year strictly for their fragrance. Nothing is more welcoming than a pot in full bloom located by the front door were guests enter. Plus, I get to enjoy the flowers fragrance every time I go by too. Hyacinths (. The above pictured hybrids are.

I'm a big fan of hybrids like these because they tend to be early bloomers and they have beautifully mottled foliage so they look interesting even before they bloom. Plant with this word -.

Gardening in a woods in eastern Iowa; a visual narrative. Tuesday, May 31, 2005. This time of year, when the rose bushes are so weighted down with flowers, they reach the ground, and the catbird is singing in his tree so enthusiastically, I fear he'll burst, it's hard sometimes to get me out of the garden. An Iowa Garden: Two Good Things
http://iowagarden.blogspot.com/2009/05/two-good-things.html
Gardening in a woods in eastern Iowa; a visual narrative. Sunday, May 24, 2009. Every garden is a bit hit or miss; two things that have recently worked out well here are, at top, sinking a plastic tub in the ground to grow primula japonica in, and at bottom, a large oval raised, shaded flower bed with a pathway all around it. Posted by IBOY @ 6:40 AM. I love all the textures and leaf shapes in that bed, punctuated by blue and yellow. It looks so pretty with the dappled light on it. May 24, 2009.
