Wednesday, 1 April 2009. Did you know that we only retain 10% of what we read! It’s no wonder, is it, that pupils who just ‘read over’ their work before a test find that it doesn’t ‘sink in’. We do, however, retain 70% of what we say, and 90% of what we do! So to make things ‘sink in’ we need to SAY them, and DO something rather than just read. Here are some pointers on pronunciation, which will also be useful for year 11. 183; ONLY pronounce the following CONSONANTS at the end of words- C R F. To help remember this, think of the word C. 183; “vert”. 8221; but if there is an “e” at the end of the word, we pronounce the consonant before it, e.g. “verte”. Eg “les yeux”. 8220;lez year”.
