Birding and Blogging in Galveston, Texas. With no rain in weeks the marshy ponds on Boddeker Rd. are shrinking drastically. I stopped by Saturday morning before work and there was a nice variety of bird life gathered. Black Skimmers. Great and Snowy Egrets. Youngster came scampering out of the reeds and wandered so close to where I was standing I couldn’t get focus with my 400mm prime! Young birds can be so incautious. Clapper Rails. August 2, 2015. Galveston’s eastern tip is where Seawall Blvd. ends, connecting with Boddeker Road which runs parallel to the ship channel south to the Gulf side at Big Reef. The stars of today included the Tundra Bean-goose (from Russia), a few Common Loon’s, a female Ruddy Duck, a couple of Lesser Scaups, Canvasbacks, a Cooper’s Hawk and a Western Grebe.
