Mahlzeit: Still not buying (much)
http://washhands-settable.blogspot.com/2012/02/still-not-buying-much.html
Days in the life of a Renaissance woman, common sense cooking and ethical food for regular people (with a little gardening thrown in). Monday, February 20, 2012. Still not buying (much). When you pay close attention to what you're buying, you start to notice all the things you buy without thinking about it. Restaurant meals. Extra apples. A magazine. A book. Lip balm. I'm not saying you shouldn't. But when you're not whipping out that plastic to buy those cute pink gloves (I don't have pink gloves! Use t...

The Garden of James: February 2010
http://startgrowing.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
The Garden of James. A Front Yard Gardener's Tales and Adventures. Sunday, February 28, 2010. I also planted twelve pots that are about 2 x 2 x 4. I planted four of the spitfire nastys (experimenting with clipping part of the seed in two (I will go in further detail about this later for the GROW project), four more chard, 2 more snaps, 1 cilantro, and one violet wave kale. This brings me up to 50 cells/pots/containers of plants. All strategically located on the window sill. Friday, February 26, 2010.

Really Rose: July 2010
http://really-rose.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
I probably take more pictures than the average girl . . . Thursday, July 22, 2010. Tucked in the Mt. Baker Snoqualmie National Forest. Became my home away from home for the weekend. It was our annual Common Ground camping trip with 25 friends from Whatcom, Skagit and Island Counties and more than 35 joining in for hiking and steak dinner on Saturday. What a fun group we had! We went to Nooksack Falls for some sightseeing. Then we hiked the Bagley Lake Trail. Links to this post. Thursday, July 8, 2010.

Gardening in Northern Virginia. Working with the clay, not against it. Smart Gardening in Hot Weather. Genetics Lesson in the Garden →. SeedGROW: C’est la vie. August 2, 2011. I’m a little bit behind the SeedGROW pack with my plants because I was out of town most of the month of June. I finally got my seeds planted in mid-July, and now I have plants ready to go out for the fall season. Of course, now I have to wait for the temperature to cool down. C’est la vie. So far, ‘Cameo’ is doing the b...This entr...

K-Town Homestead: April 2010

Leading a pioneer life on the west side of Chicago- - - - - - - - - Urban gardening * Local eating * Slow Cooking. Thursday, April 29, 2010. I have to remind myself next year to not schedule so many business trips in the tender weeks of late Spring. While in Vancouver, I missed the sprouting of the shallots, the first blossom of the Early Girl tomato, and the initial burst of intense forget-me-not blue now edging my front bed. I missed the unveiling of the 2010 One Seed Chicago plant: bee balm. 1 Cold fr...

My extensive cookbook collection yielded little information on preparation of fresh grape leaves, and even the internet yielded scant results - a lot of "I'm planning to try this" articles, rather than articles speaking with the wisdom of hindsight. The most authoritative article. Wednesday, May 26, 2010. For those with...

Leading a pioneer life on the west side of Chicago- - - - - - - - - Urban gardening * Local eating * Slow Cooking. Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Author of the "Minimalist" recipe column, and it is a good recipe. A great one in fact. So great that I am surprised this recipe didn't survive the move to Chicago. It was high time for a stroll down memory lane. And how glad I am to have local chicken to cook with! My new meat and egg CSA, Grass is Greener Gardens. Tuesday, June 29, 2010. The savory side of canning. I received a review copy from the publisher. Ashley English writes a blog, Small Measure. That will certainly be of interest to anyone who has found their way here to K-Town Homestead - it is chock full of posts about a sustainable, homemade life. I am always a bit wary of books by blogge...
