A History of Haddenham Airfield - In the beginning

http://haddenhamairfieldhistory.co.uk/beginning.htm

What in later years would be called 'air-mindedness' was sweeping the nation in the early 1930's. Alan Cobham and his Flying Circus were making regular stops at towns around the UK. Small airfields were springing up in all directions, not all of them particularly suitable for the task required and most being what would nowadays be called 'farm-strips'. Bounded on the west side by the Great Western Railway, to the north by the Aylesbury to Thame road and to the south by the small village of Haddenham, the...

A History of Haddenham Airfield - Acknowledgements, Bibliography, Links etc

Acknowledgements, Bibliography, Files and Links. This section of my website is for all of the information that does not readily sit in the chronological order of the rest of the site. For the historian and enthusiast I have listed below types and serials of just some of the aircraft that were based at Haddenham Airfield. I have also listed a number of the books I have used for background and reference details. Much more work has gone into these than this small history so all are worth having a look at.

A History of Haddenham Airfield - Ferry Pilots

http://haddenhamairfieldhistory.co.uk/ferrypilots.htm

This page has been updated with material collected and compiled in 2000 by Wg.Cdr Alan Watkins for the Haddenham Village Millenium Fete and used with his permission. The ATA's pilots came from various sources. Some were civilian pilots before the war, some were seconded directly from the RAF, some had no flying experience at all. So it was necessary to form a training school where pupils could be trained from scratch the ATA way . LIFE IN THE A.T.A. Remembers his 10 months at Haddenham with affection and...

A History of Haddenham Airfield - In the beginning

http://haddenhamairfieldhistory.co.uk/targets.htm

Target-towing and International Model Aircraft Ltd. There have always been snippets of information regarding the use of Haddenham Airfield for the testing of large model aircraft as targets for anti-aircraft guns. I have never been able to pin this down to make a decent story but now through some hard work by Peter Burton of the Oxfordshire Aviation Group we can start to reveal yet another interesting period in the history of Haddenham Airfield. August, quickly followed 2 days later by a report that test...

A History of Haddenham Airfield - Closing Down

http://haddenhamairfieldhistory.co.uk/closingdown.htm

For the rest of 1945 and into 1946 Haddenham was little more than a backwater where little was done, certainly very few aircraft came or went. Also here for a short time was the 3rd Reception Centre which was a kind of half-way house for personnel between postings, the end of the war in Europe being the main cause for so much movement. It arrived in May but was gone by October. The other main unit that was at Haddenham during this short time was a Radar Mechanics school which arrived from RAF Renscombe D...
