Hawk'n Knives Off-Beat Forge -- Hand Forged Tomahawks and Knives
http://www.hawknknives.com/aboutme/_aboutme.shtml
RAYMOND RICHARD - BLADESMITH. I am a fourth generation knife maker, of French Acadian extraction. The early immigrant Richards were farmers in Quebec while the French still held that colony. After the British conquered the French in Quebec, the Richard families were among those who refused to denounce France and swear loyalty to Great Britain. They were abruptly deported by ships to different parts of what is now the United States. The most striking stamp is a crowing rooster (shown further down the page).

ADVANCED FORGING - HAND FORGING A SPONTOON TOMAHAWK. It has been several years since I made a tomahawk for which I used a tomahawk drift to establish the eye. Making tomahawks and small axes is something that really bothers my old bones. But I thought I'd give it a try and set no time limits. I'd just forge when I felt like it. I've taken a bunch of photos and thought I would make a WIP (Work In Progress demo) out of it. So here are a few photos I took along the way, and my explanations of them. This is ...

California Custom Knives: A Recreation of a Classic French Utility
http://californiacustomknives.blogspot.com/2014/09/a-recreation-of-classic-french-utility.html
Monday, September 8, 2014. A Recreation of a Classic French Utility. I am So Very excited about this project! This being the first knife in a series of recreations of classic French Cutlery. This whole idea started when I was lucky enough to purchase an older Sabatier utility knife dating from the early 1940's. I got it from a good friend who knows more about classic chef knives than anyone I have ever known. I have learned so much from him about French, German, Spanish and American Cutlery. So as a resu...

California Custom Knives: Introducing > The Bug-Out Camp Knife
http://californiacustomknives.blogspot.com/2015/02/introducing-bug-out-camp-knife.html
Saturday, February 28, 2015. Introducing The Bug-Out Camp Knife. I have been thinking of some ideas for hybrid camp-chef knives lately. Since I have been playing with some Micarta as of late, I thought I would re-tool this stick tang camper that I made originally about 2-years ago. I re-worked the blade-style a bit and am happy with the results. Sharp as a razor and totally capable to prep foods with no problem. Basically looking very much like a chef knife, but with a bit more handle drop, and yet,.

This after seeing some very rare Blue Ivorite Paper Micarta that I felt was just one of the most stunning blues I had seen anywhere, ever. I mean there is blue,.and then there is BLUE! This is that depth and quality and texture of blue. Tuesday, September 23, 2014.

California Custom Knives: June 2014
http://californiacustomknives.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 22, 2014. Two Tribal Frenchies in 52100 and Green Maple. These two came out really sweet! I was excited about getting some of the Maple I have had for a long time dyed and stabilized. Did I mention that I LOVE GREEN! And thought that the "Tribal Wrap" with the Translucent G10 would look pretty darn cool. The first handle I did out of the green I did not have the heart to cover any of it up as it was stunning. And I think it looks AWESOME! I hope you enjoy seeing these images. These littel Fr...
