Otzi is the name given to the “Ice Man”, the frozen man discovered buried in ice in the Otztal Alps between Austria and Italy. He was remarkably well preserved and is now refrozen and in the Museum of Archeology in Bolzano, northern Italy. His clothes and shoes were also well preserved in their icy grave and some clever people have recreated his shoes for modern times. There is a shop in Helsinki selling them.

A New Zealand girl in Finland. Back in time to Turku. July 19, 2016. Last weekend we made our first visit to Turku, Finland’s original capital and home to the Turku Castle. Overlooking the Aura River, building is believed to have begun on the site as early as 1280 AD. While the original buildings have been added to and renovated over the years, progress has been interrupted at times by fire and the effects of war. I especially loved the white walls, wide wooden floor boards and countless window nooks.
