Appalachian Treks: Wild Rocky Fork
http://appalachiantreks.blogspot.com/2015/04/wild-rocky-fork.html
Sunday, April 12, 2015. Lots of activity out at Rocky Fork as it is being transformed into a state park. As you enter the park, you'll see many survey stakes and orange flagging tape lining the entrance road indicating changes are afoot. While final plans for Tennessee's newest state park are still being worked out, access improvements are underway. Here is a recent Johnson City Press article. Appalachian Treks: Overlooks
http://appalachiantreks.blogspot.com/p/overlooks_08.html
I'm often asked,. Where do I go to get great views of the mountains? This list is by no means exhaustive of all of the terrific overlooks in our area, but it's a start. Feel free to leave a comment and let us know your favorite place to take in wide open views of the mountains or to catch a sunset. Indicates vantage points that you can access either by driving directly to them or with minimal walking or hiking involved. Indicates those overlooks which are great places to see a sunset. Thursday, June 12, 2008. Take the Flag Pond exit off of I-26 (exit #50), at the stop sign turn left onto Higgins Creek Road. Drive ½ mile, til you reach Rt. 23, turn right and travel 2 ¼ mi. thru. For a trail map. June 12, 2008 at 9:02 PM. Finally, I found someone who thinks like I do. So many people just miss it all. There's a river where I live and most people have never seen more than what they see driving over the bridge. Thanks for your blog, it lets me connect with the mountains I love. Welcome to ...

Appalachian Treks: glorious green
http://appalachiantreks.blogspot.com/2015/04/glorious-green.html
Sunday, April 26, 2015. For in the true nature of things, if we rightly consider, every green tree is far more glorious than if it were made of gold and silver. Martin Luther (1483-1546) German Theologian. One of the first comments people visiting this area for the first time invariably make is, "It's so green! It's green because our average annual precipitation is more than Portland or Seattle. :) (Above: Buffalo Mountain Trail). Thanks for visiting and joining in the discussion on Appalachian Treks!

Appalachian Treks: Laurel Run Park
http://appalachiantreks.blogspot.com/2009/03/laurel-run-park.html
Sunday, March 29, 2009. There are also three waterfalls to visit there: Laurel Run Falls (10' - photo right), Kiner. Creek Falls (30' - top photo) and Logger Falls (15' photo below). All are within 1/4 - 1/2 mile of each other - with many more beautiful cascades and smaller waterfalls along the way (I haven't measured the distance, but my guess is if you visited all three, it'd be about 3 miles roundtrip). Kiner. For more information and descriptions. Of Laurel Run Falls. Click here. For more on Kiner.
