The Historical Engine Society, Inc is a non profit organization whose purpose is to provide a focal point for people interested in the machinery of a bygone era. We encourage collection, preservation, restoration and exhibition of power producing devices and the machinery driven by these units. Items range from steam traction engines, to gas tractors and engines, to horse drawn and hand powered machinery. Howard C. Murphy. Howard was a founder and member of Lake Shore Live Steamers at Penitentary Glen in Lake County and the Historical Engine Society in Geauga County and was owner / operator of the railroad named for him at Century Village in Burton. Having operated "Murphy's Railroad" for 39 years, he brought happiness to the hearts of thousands of children and adults.
