The wrong direction? | Concerning Hubbards

Musings of a Shireling. February 13, 2015. Here’s what I read in my quiet time this morning:. 8220;Jacob… I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you into a great nation. I myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you up again…”. He was delighted that Joseph, who for many years he thought was dead, was alive; but how could he leave the land that God had promised? Personally, I don’t have the historical knowledge to comment bu...

Musings of a Shireling. Monthly Archives: September 2015. Holy, holy…. deadly? September 21, 2015. Holy is a word that’s hard to define. Like glory . What do you think of when you hear the word holy? Can you picture it? The picture is like its subject, but the ink printed on a bit of photo paper isn’t the same as the real person in the flesh. You read all the rules, and God can be pretty specific about what cleanness, or holiness, looks like. Why does God care? Beautiful, lush, fertile land that provides...

Musings of a Shireling. Monthly Archives: July 2016. Comfort for contrite sinners. July 3, 2016. Temptation or be free from. Weakness or know what it means for. Thing to not be a struggle. The below post is based on what I wrote in my journal that day, and what God showed me about assurance through those chapters in Romans. Romans 5:6, 8-9. There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free from the law of sin and death. Thing, bec...

Musings of a Shireling. Monthly Archives: September 2016. What are spiritual gifts? September 1, 2016. When was the last time you lived without light? Because we have electricity in our homes we can live with the lights on 24 hours a day if we want, although it wouldn’t be very eco-friendly! Light is useful. Plants use it to generate food, we use it to see, to have the internet, to watch DVDs. Them to do something, like make something look bigger, or find your way around in the dark, or let you see throu...

Ransomed: Your God Is Coming | Concerning Hubbards
https://concerninghubbards.wordpress.com/2014/12/20/ransomed-your-god-is-coming
Musings of a Shireling. December 20, 2014. Ransomed: Your God Is Coming. Isaiah is a pretty cool book, and surprisingly relevant for Christmas. We’ve been going through it in our sermon series at St Mary’s this term, and I hadn’t noticed before just how much it’s about Jesus. In a way, that’s quite daft, because the entire Bible points to Jesus (see John 5:39), and we have those famous passages that we bring out at Christmas like Isaiah 9 (. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given. This was a mes...

Musings of a Shireling. Monthly Archives: December 2014. Ransomed: Hope Beyond Hope. December 24, 2014. CHRISTMAS IS ALMOST HERE! Carols are being sung, the Christmas candlelight service has come and gone, and it might even be bleak-midwinter-y for Christmas Day. One more sleep left! In the last Isaiah 35 post we saw an encouragement to be strong because of the hope that is coming, and these next verses open up what that hope looks like:. There’s a clue to how this will be brought about in verse 10 the r...

Ransomed: Abundant Life | Concerning Hubbards
https://concerninghubbards.wordpress.com/2014/12/11/ransomed-abundant-life
Musings of a Shireling. December 11, 2014. The book of Isaiah is all about how God acts for His glory, and especially how He does it in dealing with His people. The chunk of the Bible that runs between the poetry of Psalms, Proverbs and the like and the beginning of the New Testament is full of warnings to a people who had forgotten God. But it also contains a load of promises, too, and Isaiah is no exception. The LORD waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you....

Musings of a Shireling. October 18, 2014. A few months ago, the word Ebola wouldn’t have meant anything to most of us. But since the outbreak in West Africa started back in March and came to the attention of the media a few months later, it’s been all over the news! Having been taught about viruses in my clinical microbiology Masters, I’ve been following events with geeky interest and asking: what exactly. This virus that’s made the world so alarmed? And Centers for Disease Control. At the super-tiny lev...

Musings of a Shireling. July 3, 2016. Comfort for contrite sinners. Temptation or be free from. Weakness or know what it means for. Thing to not be a struggle. The below post is based on what I wrote in my journal that day, and what God showed me about assurance through those chapters in Romans. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Romans 5:6, 8-9.
