Walking the Fells and other stuff

Walking the Fells and other stuff. Monday, 21 May 2012. Walking close to heaven on Scafell PIke. What a day it turned out to be! Every now and again, you get a day on the fells which takes your breath away, if this had been my last day on this earth, I'd have gone a happy man. Enjoy. I set off from Brackenclose at the top of the lake, and there were signs of spring along the path. Lingmell is shrouded in low cloud beyond, I hoped it wasn't going to be one of those days. This is an phenomonen that happens...

Walking the Fells and other stuff: December 2011

http://www.ianallington.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Walking the Fells and other stuff. Friday, 9 December 2011. Wasdale and Englands' highest. Wasdale. hadn't been there for a while, so while the rest of the countr held their breath for a fine forecast for a certain wedding, Cumbria was blessed with glorious sunshine, so off I went - Scafell Pike and Scafell were todays targets. I've said it before, but this IS AN EPIC! Apologies if you get fed up half way round. No doubting where we are, but can you see the stick man shadown on the floor off the sign?

Walking the Fells and other stuff: A Coniston round with new friends

http://www.ianallington.blogspot.com/2012/05/coniston-round-with-new-friends.html

Walking the Fells and other stuff. Monday, 21 May 2012. A Coniston round with new friends. I bumped into a lad I knew through cricket at the car park, and he kindly invited me to tag along with himself and his friend Brian. It turned out to be a great walk in excellent company. A quick look back at our final destination of the day, a very snowy looking Coniston Old Man. The path finaly reaches a cross roads at the top of the pass. Our route today was up the zig zag path here heading for Brown Pike, B...

Walking the Fells and other stuff: Helvellyn by the edges

http://www.ianallington.blogspot.com/2012/05/helvellyn-by-edges.html

Walking the Fells and other stuff. Monday, 21 May 2012. Helvellyn by the edges. Helvellyn via Striding Edge and Swirral Edge is a classic route. I've finally managed to get around to doing it again, and with glorious weather forecast, it was up at Sparrow f@rt. To get an early start on one of the lake districts busiest routes. A brief detour on the way to join our path for this view down Ullswater - and disturbing the locals at breakfast! Probably one of the most well know gaps in the lakes, it's on the ...

Two Pairs of Boots ............. and four paws!: May 2014

http://twopairsofboots.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Two Pairs of Boots . and four paws! Saturday, 17 May 2014. Carrying on from our. Apparently, if you believe in legends, there are two immortal fish in this tarn! It poured down on the walk in but the weather soon cleared up enough to dry us off! Here is Holly and I at the stunning Bowscale Tarn - didn't see any fish immortal or not! The cloud obliterated most of the views from the summit. On our way back down, the pic below shows the view over towards High Pike where we walked the day before. Here is a r...

Two Pairs of Boots ............. and four paws!: November 2012

http://twopairsofboots.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Two Pairs of Boots . and four paws! Friday, 23 November 2012. Aber Falls, Carneddau Ponies and Moel Wnion. Its a lovely walk down to the big waterfall, and it could be heard some distance off, and as we got under it, it was like standing in the shower. A bit further down the path we came across the first of many Carneddau ponies that we would see on the walk, they are beautiful rugged ponies, that are normally quite shy, but this group were quite tame, and even followed us as we left them. To Hatch a Crow.

Two Pairs of Boots ............. and four paws!: February 2013

http://twopairsofboots.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Two Pairs of Boots . and four paws! Wednesday, 27 February 2013. Crimpiau, Craig Wen and Creigiau Gleision. Moel Siabod with the cold early morning mist clinging to it as we drive into Capel Curig. Looking back to Capel Curig as we ascend Crimpiau. Sharons smiles soon disappeared as we headed up to the clag! A forced smile as we can see not a lot from the top of Crimpiau. Tryfan appears out of the gloom as we descend before climbing Craig Wen. Looked magical over on Tryfan. The dam wall of Llyn Cowlyd.

http://twopairsofboots.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Two Pairs of Boots . and four paws! Saturday, 29 December 2012. Earlier this month I drove down to The Rob Piercy gallery in Porthmadog to pick up Sharon's Christmas present, there is a story behind it which I wont repeat here, but if you are interested it is on Sharon's art blog HERE. But I had the camera with me, got some great shots some of which are below, but they have stayed hidden until now as I didn't want her knowing where I had been! Yr Aran across Llyn Gwynant. Moel Hebog across Llyn Gwynant.

Two Pairs of Boots ............. and four paws!: March 2013

http://twopairsofboots.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Two Pairs of Boots . and four paws! Friday, 8 March 2013. Sharon as we start our ascent on the Miners Track. First views of Snowdon from the Miners Track. Two thirds of the Snowdon Horseshoe. Snowdon and Y Lliwedd. Snowdon across Llyn Llydaw. Snowdon nicely reflected in the one bit that hadn't iced over. Further round where the ice hadn't formed Holly was soon in. Crib Goch . doesn't look half as imposing from this angle. Our route back down was over Y Lliwedd. An ice skating gull on Glaslyn. Bingley to ...

Two Pairs of Boots ............. and four paws!: January 2013

http://twopairsofboots.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Two Pairs of Boots . and four paws! Monday, 21 January 2013. Drosgl and Aber Falls. But we did it. We walked back skirting Moel Wnion, and back to Aber for a welcome coffee and Bara Brith in the lovely Cafe. A great walk in really testing conditions, not a day for faint hearts in the snow and freezing winds, but great to be out and also again we saw some of our favourite wild Carneddau ponies, how they survive in such harsh conditions is amazing. The bridge on the Afon Rhaeader near the start of the walk.

Two Pairs of Boots ............. and four paws!: Back in Lakeland

http://twopairsofboots.blogspot.com/2014/05/back-in-lakeland.html

Two Pairs of Boots . and four paws! Tuesday, 13 May 2014. As Gary and I were in Lakeland to see the screening of 'Life of a Mountain' about Scafell Pike on Saturday we decided to take the tent and make a full weekend of it. The weather wasn't looking great but we were very lucky and managed to dodge the majority of the showers over the weekend. There were two big sticks sticking out of the summit cairn of GMF - one of them you can see here in Holly's mouth! That's Little Mell Fell in the background.

Two Pairs of Boots ............. and four paws!: Back in the fells!!!

http://twopairsofboots.blogspot.com/2014/05/back-in-fells.html

Two Pairs of Boots . and four paws! Monday, 5 May 2014. Back in the fells! Oh dear this poor old blog has been a bit neglected hasn't it! The next 3 days were spent walking some of the Lakeland fells I'd not done before and a few that Gary hadn't done, which is rare as he has walked the vast majority of them in the many years he's been walking. So, as I needed to break myself in gently we started our first day of walking with two relatively small fells, Ling Fell and Sale Fell. Gary had the bright idea o...

Two Pairs of Boots . and four paws! Wednesday, 25 September 2013. Cadair Idris - back in the mountains! This is the beautiful Cwm Cau with Craig Cwm Amarch in the background. A glaciated bowl cut into the mountain you are surrounded on all sides by this wonderful ridge which will lead us to Penygadair the summit of Cadair Idris, out of view on the right hand side of this photo. The outlet of Llyn Cau. Yours truly very happy to be in one of her favourite places. A passing Hawk jet. Don't forget to press F...
