GUSNA for Scotland: In the wake of Morgan
http://gusnaforscotland.blogspot.com/2011/07/in-wake-of-morgan.html
Glasgow University Scottish Nationalist Association's Blog. Sunday, 17 July 2011. In the wake of Morgan. At the Opening of Parliament earlier this month our new Makar Liz Lochead’s poem ‘ Open the Doors again. 8217; saw her revisit, and reiterate much of ‘ Open the Doors. 8217; by Edwin Morgan, the poem she herself read at the Opening of Parliament in 1999. The news that Morgan had left £1m to the SNP. Do they really think that Edwin Morgan would have donated £1,000,000 to that. Sort of Nationalist party?

GUSNA for Scotland: Austerity cuts, cutting the chances of recovery
http://gusnaforscotland.blogspot.com/p/austerity-cuts-cutting-chances-of.html
Glasgow University Scottish Nationalist Association's Blog. Austerity cuts, cutting the chances of recovery. Well, we didn’t know it was. Bad Nobody said there was. Much debt. It’s just one of those horrible, unavoidable things. After all,. We’re all in this together. At the election, Labour only offered austerity-lite. Vince Cable and Nick Clegg, the most eloquent Parliamentary critics of austerity measures, have been co-opted into delivering Conservative budgets. Our public debate is now shaped...The s...

Bid for Freedom!: The waiting game
http://bidforfreedom.blogspot.com/2009/10/waiting-game.html
The musings of an SNP activist. Monday, 26 October 2009. I could be in labour any moment now (that’s the process of giving birth, and not the political party before anyone starts spreading rumours! I’ve been making the most of this part of my maternity leave, and using it to organise some campaign things and get my filing in order – but it’s very frustrating to have such little energy or flexibility! Good to see you at Conference Julie! Thinking of you and sending good wishes. :). 26 October 2009 at 16:13.

Bid for Freedom!: December 2008
http://bidforfreedom.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
The musings of an SNP activist. Tuesday, 30 December 2008. How predictable. There have not only been calls to freeze the minimum wage. But also to allow businesses to pay their employees less than the minimum wage because of current economic problems. My blood pressure was going through the roof yesterday when I heard a UKIP politician on Radio 2 calling for businesses to be allowed to pay below the National Minimum Wage! So, the cause of the current recession has been the National Minimum Wage then?

Bid for Freedom!: May 2009
http://bidforfreedom.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
The musings of an SNP activist. Friday, 29 May 2009. As a (relatively) young woman in politics, and one very aware of the gender dimension of politics – having both studied gender politics and also convening the SNP Women’s Forum for a time – I am disappointed that women are under-represented in this vital area of public life. I have been told not to overdo things, to avoid stairwells, and not to feel under pressure to do more than I feel up to just because I’m the candidate. Interestingly, a handful of ...

Bid for Freedom!: New destiNation article
http://bidforfreedom.blogspot.com/2009/10/new-destination-article.html
The musings of an SNP activist. Sunday, 4 October 2009. I have been neglecting my blog over recent months, mainly because I didn't think I would be able to refrain from using it to vent frustration at all my pregnancy-related 'ailments'! Plus, I usually only had time to blog late at night, and I've been heading to bed much earlier than usual. Growing a new little person is hard work! Anyway, I have still managed to keep destiNation. Bid for Freedom!: Social Mobility
http://bidforfreedom.blogspot.com/2009/07/social-mobility.html
The musings of an SNP activist. Wednesday, 22 July 2009. Published yesterday got me thinking about my days at Edinburgh University, and about a couple of conversations I witnessed at the time. The first was outside the library, when I overheard two girls talking about the queues to access university computers. Girl one: ‘Yes, I had to wait 30 minutes for a computer yesterday’. Then, there was another conversation in one of my tutorials when we were discussing poverty. However, most of us were not in such...

Bid for Freedom!: The cost of politics
http://bidforfreedom.blogspot.com/2009/05/cost-of-politics.html
The musings of an SNP activist. Sunday, 17 May 2009. The cost of politics. So what is the point of this stroll through memory lane? No, it’s not to panic my mum. And it’s not just the money. What also worries me is the mindset of these MPs, and just how detached from reality some of them seem to be. If the rest of us want something, we have to pay for it ourselves. It really must be easier to spend other people’s money. What will be the legacy of this whole affair? I think it will. Would I believe me?
