Clarafication: Eeeeww

Tuesday, January 11, 2011. One night in childhood when my parents were out, I woke up for a drink of water and found the babysitter on the kitchen floor, surrounded by the contents of our refrigerator. She had suddenly felt compelled to clean it. 8220;It’s a good thing you got up,” she said. “What is this? She had found the grease jar, where we poured the fat after cooking low-grade hamburger. When the congealed layers reached the top, we threw out the whole sludgy jar and started over. Underneath the bo...
Clarafication: June 2013

Saturday, June 15, 2013. Kerrville Folk Festival 2013. I recently returned from the Kerrville Folk Festival in the Texas Hill Country, which I attend pretty much annually. I’ve mentioned it a couple. It’s a phenomenon that’s not very easy to explain to people who aren’t already familiar with it. This time I tried a new variation on my standard description. I got a new response, too. Generally, the previous generation suits me a lot better. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Kerrville Folk Festival 2013.

Clarafication: FAQ
http://ineedclarafication.blogspot.com/p/faq.html
These are the questions I imagine people would ask me if I were famous and successful. If you’d like to ask me questions that I did not make up, I will attempt to answer those, too. Why did you start a blog? I talk to myself pretty much non-stop, mostly out loud, and I have an English degree. Then a friend forwarded me a link to Hyperbole and a Half. Where I learned two life-changing lessons:. Blogs don’t need a theme beyond “I thought of this”. Do you really wear that green shirt all the time? I imagine...

Saturday, September 21, 2013. Hooray, it’s another story with barfing in it! Taboo, in addition to being the vehement objection of a society to a forbidden behavior, is a word game that you probably have in your closet. Either one can be fun at parties, depending on the guest list. One really sound way to succeed at this game is to own an older copy that has not taken into account the last fifteen years of pop culture and technological innovation. The roommates in question agreed that they had not harbor...

Journey of Redemption: November 2013
http://searchforthekingdom.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
A blog about faith, motherhood, writing, and baseball. As usual when writing a story, there have been surprises. Unexpected things have happened. I think one of the biggest for me has been how personal the story has become. I wasn't planning on that. The other day I was writing a passage and the realization hit me that I was no longer writing my character's story- I was writing mine. It really doesn't change my. So as National Novel-Writing Month loomed I wasn't sure if I was going to participate or not&...

Journey of Redemption: December 2014
http://searchforthekingdom.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
A blog about faith, motherhood, writing, and baseball. Last November at Thanksgiving I had just finished NaNoWriMo, and was thankful for how God had used the writing to help me process through some of the grief from recent heartache. I was thankful because I felt I had new purpose and joy, and I was at peace about the losses and the possibility that James and I might not be able to have kids. I am thankful for my siblings, my two older brothers and their wonderful wives. I am thankful that I get to l...

Journey of Redemption: A New Project
http://searchforthekingdom.blogspot.com/2013/08/a-new-project.html
A blog about faith, motherhood, writing, and baseball. Has God ever ministered to you through something you wrote years ago and then all but forgot about? Makes me think it wasn't me writing it in the first place. This experience, and getting re-acquainted with the story and the characters, has renewed my desire to share them. So for the present at least, this is the story I am going to (re) take up. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). In all these things we are more than conquerers through him who loved...

Journey of Redemption: Writing for an Audience of One
http://searchforthekingdom.blogspot.com/2013/09/writing-for-audience-of-one.html
A blog about faith, motherhood, writing, and baseball. Writing for an Audience of One. I am an impatient person; it is very hard for me to wait for things. To this day I can hardly sleep Christmas eve night because I am so excited to open presents. This applies to smaller examples, as well. When I decide to get a haircut I get so excited, I want it to happen right away. Well, lately this impatience has manifested itself in another way. Lately, I have had trouble writing, and I think that trouble is t...

Clarafication
Thursday, May 18, 2017. I'm starting to think that maybe children aren't universally terrifying after all. I don’t really know what to do with small children. I didn’t have to acquire much experience in this department growing up—my brother is only three years younger than I am, all of our cousins are older than that, and by the time I reached babysitting age it was already firmly established that I was not the right teenage girl to ask to help out in the nursery. After acceptance into the program, TFA t...
