the american west is enormous, and full of wind | improvisation: westward
https://colecycle.wordpress.com/2008/07/14/the-american-west-is-enormous-and-full-of-wind
Two months of bike-packing. Cruising across the plains. This train runs on pancakes. The american west is enormous, and full of wind. Let me catch you up: We headed west towards the Missouri river after the abbey, stopping in Mobridge, SD. From there, we headed north into Bismarck, ND. Needless to say, it was a slower start the next morning – we had been Zapped. Sorry. Spontaneously breaking out into song, mainly “Bohemian Rhapsody”. We have been making great time and should enter Glacier National Park.

the daily grind | improvisation: westward

Two months of bike-packing. This train runs on pancakes. This is by far the coolest library we have been in so far – each computer is named after a character from Star Wars. Carl, the tall blonde, is appropriately sitting at C3PO. I’m at Han. This can only mean that sooner or later, Carl will be shot into a million pieces and I will have to strap him to the back of my wookie. Responses to “the daily grind”. Two months of bike-packing. The american west is enormous, and full of wind. This train runs on pancakes. We’ve spent the past two nights in Glacier National Park. The Rocky Mountains are absolutely beautiful. We entered by way of St Mary. An all you can eat buffet at McDonald Lodge this morning feuled our reluctant exit. The resulting stomach ache was mollified, however, by a huckleberry milkshake – delicious! Responses to “this train runs on pancakes”. Feed for this Entry. 07 18 08 at 10:34 pm. You are...

July | 2008 | improvisation: westward
https://colecycle.wordpress.com/2008/07
Two months of bike-packing. Archive for July, 2008. Arrival to the left coast. We are in the mountains. A long climb up to Sherman Pass (5,575 ft.) is the highest in Washington state. I’ve begun to enjoy these climbs more than I did when we fist started with the Green Mountains in Vermont. The 10 mile descents aren’t half bad either. Tomorrow, we’ll enter the North Cascades – not as high as Sherman Pass, but supposedly more beautiful. Having made it this far, we’ve decided to slow the pace, take a ...

Two months of bike-packing. Arrival to the left coast. This train runs on accident(s): 120 pictures. If anything, the train experience underscored a recurring theme of this trip: I am. A testament to universal chaos? We met a “faith-walker” in western Montana who would call it a “divine appointment”. I’m not quite there, yet. First things first: surrendering control and being alright with that. Responses to “this train runs on accident(s): 120 pictures”. Feed for this Entry. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

cruising across the plains | improvisation: westward
https://colecycle.wordpress.com/2008/07/03/cruising-across-the-plains
Two months of bike-packing. A little bit about food. The american west is enormous, and full of wind. Cruising across the plains. We left the Blue Cloud Abbey in Marvin, SD this morning. The community of about 15 Benedictine monks treated us with the utmost hospitality – housing and feeding us for two nights. It was refreshing to come in contact with and even participate in their way of life. Tomorrow is the fourth of July – we are on the lookout for fireworks and a barbecue to crash. Feed for this Entry.
