Almost There...: Fast Unfolding
http://court-anonymous.blogspot.com/2014/05/fast-unfolding.html
Tuesday, May 20, 2014. In September I attended a six-day retreat which featured daily teachings from Thich Nhat Hanh. The idea of accepting his Five Mindfulness Trainings (a contemporary form of the Buddha's five precepts to become a monk) was presented early, and it took me days of consideration before I decided to accept them. This retreat had upon me the same effect that I'd experienced after my time in the hospital in 2005- I had rediscovered my volition. Sangha is the Sanskrit word for a community o...

Almost There...: March 2012
http://court-anonymous.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 30, 2012. Get thee to a monastery. I've had difficulty explaining this in the past, but this image from postsecret.com revealed how simple it is to just say it. The monastic life appeals to me. I enjoy solitude, I enjoy silent contemplation. I would make a very good monk, I think. Only problem is, I am not religious. And then I floated aimlessly- by this point I had entered management at a store in Nashville, and I was dating Katie. I still followed my philosophical interests, but enter...

Almost There...: yesterday's choices through today's eyes
http://court-anonymous.blogspot.com/2012/07/yesterdays-choices-through-todays-eyes.html
Thursday, July 19, 2012. Yesterday's choices through today's eyes. Stephanie recently asked me these questions about some of the decisions I've made in life. It gave me a good excuse to look back and see what got me where I am today. * *What encouraged you to pursue the path of a Buddhist monk? Nothing is final, and perhaps "detoured" is better word for what happened. It was a string of coincidences I followed toward Nyingma, so when those coincidences pulled me in a new direction, why would I refuse?

Almost There...: December 2011

Thursday, December 22, 2011. Where There Is Smoke, There Is ROSEWATER. So today I took the biggest step yet toward actually living on the farm- I started shoveling out the grain shed. That sentence pretty much sums up my expectations for the day, however life should always be an adventure. Things I learned today:. 1) Smoke usually floats up and disperses, however this is not the case when it is raining. 3) When seen from the road, this situation looks quite serious. Links to this post. It struck me as od...

Almost There...: April 2011
http://court-anonymous.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 12, 2011. In the air again. Here I am at the Killeen airport, about to board a plane for the first time n a couple of years. The keyboard on this netbook is tiny, so expect typos. This afternoon I'll be n Tennessee for the first time since August 2008. When I left Seattle, this was to be my final destination, so I'm glad I'm making it, I guess. I feel like I'm going the wrong direction, though. Um, so why am I taking it? Everything about this feels wrong. Links to this post. Living Buddha,...

Almost There...: June 2011
http://court-anonymous.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 6, 2011. An excerpt from a journal. I called the temp agency to let them know I was available to work. They said they could get me in today, just have to fill out some paperwork at the office first, how soon could I be there? Thirty minutes. What I said? Maybe noon (it was 8:45). She said they'll be at lunch, come by at 1:00. I'll do the paperwork, but most likely won't work until tomorrow. Why do I settle for this? It's a matter of separating myself from my choice. As an external force,...

Wednesday, March 23, 2011. The Path of Adversity (cue epic soundtrack music). So, these past two months have been intense,. And have made much sense out of the nonsense that my life has been for the past three years. I was terribly depressed. The enjoyment I got from hanging out, playing video games and watching television was always undermined by the fact that I could be getting more from life. I'd been learning that ever since I'd moved to Tennessee, but I was never really aware of it until I met Micha...
