http://desertwindsyav.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
The greatest thing we'll ever learn, is just to love.". Sunday, May 29, 2011. My first full length sermon. This is the script of the sermon I preached today at Faith Presbyterian Church in Sierra Vista, AZ. The reading was from Philipians 2:1-11, 14. 8220;do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourself.”. Humility- I’m working on it. It’s the journey, not the destination-right? When I first spoke with Brandon, the site coordinator for Tucson YAV pr...

Guat's the Word?: August 2010
http://guatstheword.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 26, 2010. Sorry for the delay. This address can be used to send "non-valuable and non-urgent" items. If you send a box it will stop in Guatemala City, be taxed, and wait and wait and wait for me to come and pick it up. :) But the puffy manila envelopes should make it through. You can expect it to take 10 days (usually) to 3 weeks (occasionally). In other words, the postal system runs on "Guatemalan time". The Gift of The Cloud. But with the exception of today, it's been unusually cloudy.

Wednesday, March 9, 2011. Whew what a long, full, energizing and completely draining, life-giving day. Ash Wednesday. Miercoles de cenizas. At 9:00 we have mass," they tell me at school. 'As in, 400 students go to mass? With them), reach your friends chair, poke your fingers through, push on them with your feet, etc. When it's time to kneel, during the Lord's Supper, you can actually get. About this time I hear the priest asking how many days passed between Jesus' death and resurrection? Little hands sta...

Guat's the Word?: June 2011
http://guatstheword.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 30, 2011. I've been learning Spanish for a loooooong time, and man, would Ms. Nobles be proud to see where I've gotten after those first few, rocky years. And still, every once in a while, a word or saying grabs me by the heart or makes my ears perk up in curiosity. So, I thought I would share a few of my favorites. This is just my favorite Spanish word. It means bubbles, and it's fun to say. Burbujas. This is an oldie, but goodie. Me encanta chocolate. Me encanta la playa. Basically just ...

"The greatest thing we'll ever learn, is just to love.": Disgust, confusion, absence, and a whirlwind of other emotions
http://desertwindsyav.blogspot.com/2011/05/disgust-confusion-absence-and-whirlwind.html
The greatest thing we'll ever learn, is just to love.". Thursday, May 5, 2011. Disgust, confusion, absence, and a whirlwind of other emotions. On Tuesday night there was a protest. All of my roommates went, and I did not. I'm still trying to figure out how to understand the stories, how to be there for them, and how to continue on as a player in a system I feel like continually shows its flaws rather than its strengths. May 8, 2011 at 12:10 PM. The process is very important! My first full length sermon.

"The greatest thing we'll ever learn, is just to love.": November 2010
http://desertwindsyav.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
The greatest thing we'll ever learn, is just to love.". Monday, November 8, 2010. Since moving here to Tucson, people kept telling me about the "Day of the Dead" parade down fourth street. I kept hearing about what a great spectacle it has always been. And, it definitely lived up to all of that hype. We had some friends join us before processing down the main street here in town, clad in black, covered in face paint, and carrying memories or photos of our loved ones. Until I stepped into the procession.

"The greatest thing we'll ever learn, is just to love.": December 2010
http://desertwindsyav.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
The greatest thing we'll ever learn, is just to love.". Tuesday, December 28, 2010. There IS grace and beauty in bordertown, Mexico. I love the feeling of coming home. Everyone is so excited to see me, hear my stories, and share together. Which- most of you know, I absolutely love interacting with children, so I couldn't have been more excited! You can listen to the service from that day, December 26 here. The sermon and the music are both really good, so I highly recommend the whole sha-bang! Yesterday,...

"The greatest thing we'll ever learn, is just to love.": January 2011
http://desertwindsyav.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
The greatest thing we'll ever learn, is just to love.". Monday, January 31, 2011. Just a little drip. Today was a good day. Not even an "all things considered" sort of good day. Just a good day. Which, when thinking about the events of this morning, it's pretty wonderful it worked out afterall. CrossStreets was wonderful, as usual. And then we piled back to drive home, grab our bikes, and head to work for the day after dropping Meredith's bike off for a tune-up. We hurried to move all of the stuff out of...

The greatest thing we'll ever learn, is just to love.". Friday, March 11, 2011. A few weeks ago, the Tucson YAVs had our "lenten retreat" (although, a few weeks early). We spent Wednesday and Thursday night camping together in Cascabel, then Friday and Saturday night on our own, solo-sojourns in the desert. Here are some photos from it:. More photos to come soon). Window rock (tilt head 90 degrees). The first sight of water flowing in the desert. A view from my "living room" on my sojourn. The whole time...
