Many were varieties I could see at home but others were quite exotic. Orchids and bromeliads were growing as epiphytes in the tropical rain forest and others were in established gardens such as at the Sevegre Mountain Lodge where we spent two nights. The Roadrunner is also a bird I’ve seen and photographed before, but never perched in this way – first on a wooden fence and then later on the roof of a mobile home. The bird did not move for a long time and did open its mouth a few times to vocalize – though I didn’t hear it. It certainly was not on a road and was not running. After trying on two previous occasions to find these birds we had success today on our Friday morning Audubon walk. There were three of these beautiful night herons, as well as a Great Blue Heron and a Snowy Egret. This is pretty uncommon and it was a first for me.
