A Cloak of Feathers. A Poet and a Philosopher. Returning to a cold New Zealand winter full of drab greys and browns, I felt a hunger for the vibrant colours and complex patterns that had so nourished me whilst on holiday in Bali. A common subject in traditional balinese painting is birds in trees and so I decided to follow a long time love of mine and create a series of quirky bird characters incorporating rich colour into the traditionally monochromatic medium of etching. Medium: Two plate colour etching.

Born in England in 1962, I spent most of my childhood immersed in books. At university I gained degrees in Philosophy and English Literature and taught English for ten years. Feeling like a change of direction, I decided to explore my other childhood passion - drawing and making things. I studied Visual Arts at Tai Poutini and became a full-time printmaker in 1999.

A Comfort of Ravens. And A Comfort of Ravens. Explore the question of what happens when this life ends? A question I asked after my dad died. The answer came in the form of these two images - of being carried away by spirit birds and taken to a beautiful garden of healing where the raven, an archetype of the wise healer, both comforts and guides us through this transition.
