Just for the fun of it . This entry was posted on July 7, 2011, in Jottings. And tagged 2012 election. Before computers were friendly and usable, the geeks among us loved the asterisk. Forgotten by most, it shares a flat with number “8” on the northern row of the keyboard. A. S a wildcard for filenames, file extensions, and directories, the asterisk was and still is a great way to list, find, move, and copy files if you’re a man with no need for mouse. *. So far, we haven’t seen this change. Yes, univers...

Just for the fun of it . This entry was posted on July 15, 2011, in Jottings. Call of the Wild. Her circuitous diagrams had multiple tentacles snaking this way and that and, somehow, she found a home for every word in the sentence. My kids make fun of my carefully constructed messages and could care less about grammatical decorum as they truncate every word down to just a few characters or just one. Reply from Mary: ok c u have fun! Reply from Carolyn: k. Reply from Connor: [no reply]. The first handwrit...

Just for the fun of it . Jottings’ Election Bingo 2012. Nothing is more irritating than Monday morning quarterbacks. So, in the spirit of going out on a limb — knowing the high probability that I’ll be incredibly wrong — here is my prediction for the electoral map come November. I’m posting this August 27, 2012. (The subtitle of this post could be, “Wishful Thinking.”) If you’d … Continue reading →. Before computers were friendly and usable, the geeks among us loved the asterisk. Forgotten by most, i...

Just for the fun of it . Filed under Short Stories. Death of a Weatherman. Louis loved to lick. His favorites were urine-drenched fire hydrants, the rear ends of fellow dogs, fallen branches, light poles, recycle bins, discarded beer cans, yellow snow and salty blacktop especially at the end of winter. While most dogs were satisfied simply sniffing their way through life, Louis used his morning walks up Twisted … Continue reading →. Taking Up My Cross. Getting Out of Dodge, or Baltimore. Rude Recliners | Jottings by Jim

Just for the fun of it . This entry was posted on December 18, 2011, in Jottings. The dark side of business travel includes packing bags, leaving family, inching through security, and all too often wedging into a middle seat in coach. At 6’2 , 210 pounds, I rub elbows literally with my new neighbors because the average coach seat is 17 inches wide. If my neighbors are extra-large, we rub more than elbows. Although my knees scraped the seat pocket and my elbows were pinned to my torso, I was able to read.

Jottings by Janet | Notes on journeys, writing and living on shaky ground

Notes on journeys, writing and living on shaky ground. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Am I still blogging? December 17, 2012. At a pre-Christmas lunch, someone asked me, ‘Are you still blogging? No thanks, not unless it will help me get closer to my goals. Another book on the craft of writing? No, it’s time to write, not just read about it. And that leads me back to the big question, for me, about blogging: does this get me closer to my goals? Some writers see blogging as part of the...
