Journey to Greener Pastures...: We got an Extractor
http://journeytogreenerpastures.blogspot.com/2015/08/we-got-extractor.html
Journey to Greener Pastures. My journey to becoming more self reliant and less dependent upon the 'Just in Time' support infrastructure. We got an Extractor. We finally broke down and got a honey extractor. Doing scrape and crush was just wasting too much time and wax. We got it from Amazon, here it is. Hmm, the price has gone up. And a picture of it in use:. So far we have extracted 41lbs of honey and sold 17 lbs. Anyone want to buy some raw honey? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Oak Court Cats' Blog.
Journey to Greener Pastures...: Fodder update
http://journeytogreenerpastures.blogspot.com/2015/08/fodder-update.html
Journey to Greener Pastures. My journey to becoming more self reliant and less dependent upon the 'Just in Time' support infrastructure. Well, finally got a decent small crop of wheat fodder, so in heavy anticipation I gave it to the chickens this am. And once again, it shows that the Internet is not always right. The chickiens ate the seeds that were not sprouted, but ignored the sprouted ones. I am out of wheat seeds, but I have barley in the process. I'll see how they like barley. Oak Court Cats' Blog.
Journey to Greener Pastures...: Too hot!
http://journeytogreenerpastures.blogspot.com/2015/06/too-hot.html
Journey to Greener Pastures. My journey to becoming more self reliant and less dependent upon the 'Just in Time' support infrastructure. Hot weather this week, changed priorities. I installed some Gila window heat films on the office and dining area in at attempt to cool those rooms down from the constant sun exposure. Not to hard to do once you get the hang of it. We'll see how it keeps things. Site for the film:. Gila heat control films. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Naomi's Organic Farm Supply.
Journey to Greener Pastures...: Japanese maples for the homestead
http://journeytogreenerpastures.blogspot.com/2015/05/japanese-maples-for-homestead.html
Journey to Greener Pastures. My journey to becoming more self reliant and less dependent upon the 'Just in Time' support infrastructure. Japanese maples for the homestead. We found on CL a local grower of Japanese maple trees. L and Q like them, so we bought 2 different types. The first is a red leaf Japanese maple (Acer palmatum/Atropurpureum), also called a smooth Japnese Maple. The 2nd is a 'Green Lace' Japanese maple. Link for info to Japanese Maples. Pictures will be forthcoming once planted.
Journey to Greener Pastures...: Fodder system
http://journeytogreenerpastures.blogspot.com/2015/07/fodder-system.html
Journey to Greener Pastures. My journey to becoming more self reliant and less dependent upon the 'Just in Time' support infrastructure. Started a 'Dead Simply' Fodder systems last night. I am working off of the video/post that Jack Spirko made at Brink of Freedom web site. The chickens like having fresh veggies/leafy greens and fodder is a cheap way to get them that. Link to Jack's system:. Dead Simple' Fodder system. I bought a poultry grain mix from Patriot Farm and Feed. Naomi's Organic Farm Supply.

Just an average guy reviewing equipment for average guys (and gals). Just an average guy reviewing equipment for the average guy (or gal). March 16, 2016. Lighting Your Way Today. Lots of light in a small amount of space. EDC lights: I carry three lights with me most of the time unless it summer and I don’t have a coat or lite jacket (no pun intended. LOL). Just an average guy reviewing equipment for average guys (and gals). March 28, 2015. Stanley Adventure 24 oz Camp Cook Set. 2 10 oz cups nested inside. The handle locks in the down position VERY securely. Excellent design. One of the ups on top to show the size. Not a bad size. Not too big, not too small. The plastic tab on the lid locks into a vertical position which is very handy. Makes it easy to handle and control the lid. Cooking away on a fire my son built. So for me, this is not going to be my nor...

Just an average guy reviewing equipment for average guys (and gals). February 21, 2015. CRKT Woods Kangee Tomahawk. Image Courtesy of CRKT. Top Edge Notice how different the bevel is than the bottom edge. Bottom edge is nearly perfect. The heavier weight and design of the spike makes it dig in deep. Spike really tears stuff up. (My oldest boy really enjoyed tearing the stump up with it). My oldest boy using the hawk to fuzz some wood. Price, this is what blows me away. The cost for this hawk ranges f...

Just an average guy reviewing equipment for average guys (and gals). May 15, 2015. Even after that much abuse, still lookin good. My son picked this knife up for himself a while back for about $22. He really liked it and I used it a little and although I’m not a big fan of scale-less knives, this handle is fairly decent and works well with a set of gloves on. (Extended use without gloves may cause some hot spots). In the pocket carry. This works well because of the plastic liner in the sheath. Bag I cut ...

DIY Tarp Camping | Average Guy Reviews
https://averageguyreviews.wordpress.com/2015/05/12/diy-tarp-camping
Just an average guy reviewing equipment for average guys (and gals). May 12, 2015. Basic Configuration. 4 poles 6 stakes (Can add two more guys to the front poles if really windy). My first ever Tarp setup. Circa 1991 or so. Not pretty but the money I saved on a tent bought me lots of beer. The first couple tarp setups I used I didn’t care for. Just too claustrophobic and were too much like tents, took too much effort to get back into and out of it if it rained. Yes poly is a bit noisier than other mater...

Journey to Greener Pastures...
Journey to Greener Pastures. My journey to becoming more self reliant and less dependent upon the 'Just in Time' support infrastructure. Day 58, all salmon released! So I helped out the rest of the salmon still in the buckets escape to the wild today. I did noticed a lot of dead eggs at the bottom of one bucket, I'll have to see if I can improve the design to prevent the eggs falling thru the mesh and bunching up and rotting. I'm looking forward to next year. The salmon 'alvins' are hiding in the rocks.

Journey to Gujarat
April 6, 2013. The Ahmedabad founded by Sultan Ahmed Shah in 1411 was a walled city made up of communities called “pols.” These are self-contained communities with only one or two entrances, gates that could be closed at the first sign of communal trouble. They also feature secret passageways among themselves that are difficult to discover unless someone points them out to you. The pols still follow communal lines: ones for Hindus, Jains, Muslims. March 29, 2013. Filled with water, and a thali with popped.
