Lost in America ...

Lost in America . Friday, September 21, 2007. Shivering Down Sierra Nevada to a Golden End. I've also heard a lot of good things about Yosemite National Park, in the Sierra Nevada mountain range - pronounced with four syllables: Yo·seh·mi·tee - Certainly the 32-mile [51½ km] ride from nearby Mariposa (stopover town) to the Park's entrance was spectacular in itself. With the entrance fee at USD $20, I'm again glad to show my Annual Pass to the Ranger and get into the park for free . :o). But right here, a...

Lost in America . Friday, August 17, 2007. Rockin' All Over The Rockies. My first night in Colorado is spent in Pueblo City at a totally unmemorable Super-8 motel where few of the amenities - e.g. soft drink dispensing machine, laundry powder dispenser, my room’s credit-card-type plastic key fob! Etceteras - actually work. The following day, Mon-Aug-13, I hit the road by around 10:30am and continue my westward journey along US-50. 225 miles (362 km) later and I check into my next motel in Montrose. Today...

Lost in America . Saturday, August 25, 2007. I'm smaaarter than the average bear! Title Quote is from a fictional anthropomorphic bear called 'Yogi Bear', who appeared in animated cartoons created by Hanna-Barbara Productions mainly during the 1960s. Again if you were born after say 1970 then this post’s title will probably mean very little to you. FYI, I grew-up throughout my childhood years with Yogi, and his humbler sidekick, Boo-Boo Bear. Once again an entrance fee is required. No sooner am I leaving...

Lost in America . Wednesday, July 25, 2007. Lock, STOC and Two Smokin' Mufflers. Weekend commencing Friday, July-20. Gettysburg was indeed a worthwhile experience, and afforded me a much greater understanding of the American Civil War (1861–1865) between the United States (the "Union") and the eleven "Confederate" Southern states. I'm glad I went. However, I have signed-up to attend the annual NJSTOC ( N. Lub) meeting that runs from Friday, 20 -to- Sunday, 22 of July. So the time has arrived to. The one ...

Lost in America . Sunday, August 12, 2007. Into America's Mid-West Heartland. An early start to the day. Well before breakfast-time Unc Phil escorts me, through some twisty countryside roads, beyond Nashville's city limits to a convenient road junction that sets me up nicely onto my westward course, and he into his city-based workplace. So now I'm on my own again. This is one of the few remaining ferries in the United States and the only operating ferry crossing the Mississippi between the states of Miss...

The picture above is one of many outlooks from the Skyway as I climb up its sweeping bends towards the summit. This is a GREAT road. The highest point - Huckleberry Knob . the Hound's old hangout . Oh m'darlin' oh m'darlin' oh m'darlin' Clementine.". If you were born after 1960, then you probably wouldn't understand all this . ;o). The following day, Wednesday th...
