Laughing Feminist

September 15, 2015. This morning I tried to write about the joy of turning forty-five. Or how to love yourself. Or an inspiring response to the Just Be. Video I cried over and shared on Facebook. At the same time I was checking to see how many Happy Birthday messages were popping up, watching Netflix and eating cake for breakfast. So, what does it mean to focus on. As if we didn’t grow up with messages every day telling us to do more, work harder, buy more, be thinner, cleaner, smarter, faster, richer.

Dear Daughters – Laughing Feminist

https://laughingfeminist.wordpress.com/2015/02/10/dear-daughters

February 10, 2015. February 10, 2015. Huddled over my laptop, Katie Makkai’s Pretty. Shoulders touching, wiping my tears, Oh Mom, you always cry at this one . Hugging me, running off to the next thing, leaving me wondering,. Have I told you enough, have I shown you your worth? Have my own insecurities found their way into your DNA? You’ve always been strong. I conjure the memory of your three-year-old naked body staring up at me,. Hands on hips defiantly shouting, You’re not the boss of me! Slowly convin...

Raising Feminist Daughters – Laughing Feminist

https://laughingfeminist.wordpress.com/2014/12/09/raising-feminist-daughters

December 9, 2014. December 9, 2014. Yesterday my daughter told me that I was damaging her self-esteem by refusing to tell her she was good at twerking. Watching her gyrate around the kitchen in her pajamas I asked her if she was having a seizure and needed medical attention. As both daughters move into adolescence, the tension between them noticing issues of inequality while also Not Being Their Mother is becoming really interesting. I love sharing YouTube videos on feminist issues. So many cool youn...

Not Cleaning – Laughing Feminist

https://laughingfeminist.wordpress.com/2013/08/04/not-cleaning

August 4, 2013. August 4, 2013. I would be happy if your house was messy. Clothes drying in the living room. Coffee cups, unopened mail and stacks of books falling over. Dog hair poking out from behind the couch. I would smile at the faint smell of pee in the bathroom. Knowing for sure that you had been digging dirt, or paddling waves, songs flowing from your uninterrupted thoughts. Riding your bike to the market to buy fresh raspberries. Laughing on the phone with your sister. I would tell you about my ...

Portland Home Massage: What People Really Look Like

http://dalefavier.blogspot.com/2013/09/what-people-really-look-like.html

September 2, 2013. What People Really Look Like. Women have cellulite, men have silly buttocks. I’ve been a massage therapist for many years, now. I know what people look like. People have been undressing for me for a long time. I know what you look like: a glance at you, and I can picture pretty well what you’d look like on my table. Let’s start here with what nobody looks like: nobody looks like the people in magazines or movies. Not even models. Reposted in Elephant Journal. This comment has been remo...

The Laughing Feline

A joke a day. Keeps the Vet away. Saturday, December 25, 2010. Last Christmas you left me a sled. This Christmas please leave some snow. New toys this Christmas. All I want is my own credit card. This Christmas I would like a toy that doesn't break when my father plays with it. Last Christmas I asked you for a baby brother. This Christmas I want you to take him back. Can you get me a trip to the moon on the next space shuttle? I've never been anywhere except Salt Lake City. It isn't fair to the real kids.

Tuesday, October 24, 2017.

Laughing Ferret

Blood Bowl Teams Hall of Fame. Tuesday, December 24, 2013. Happy Xmas and all the various holidays. Seems to be a new tradition that December runs over me, repeatedly, like a herd of reindeer on meth. So please excuse the pathetic trickle of updates. First my computer died, then I fixed it. or thought I did, but was hardly working, then it flat-out died, so I've been unable to do much of anything, though a new computer is on it's way!
