Lauren in the States!: October 2011

http://www.laureninjapan.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Lauren in the States! Life through my eyes, which I hope are growing wider every day. But it dawned on me that the few men I have loved, who have touched my past, have left their fingerprints on the current mold of who I am today and how I live. I got rid of. But my life still carries parts of each of them. Whether I chose to end the relationship, or whether they did, they have all contributed to my life in ways that will not disappear or be easily tossed into the garbage. To anyone, or even to myself!

Lauren in the States!: April 2009

Lauren in the States! Life through my eyes, which I hope are growing wider every day. Recently, a wise man said, "When otherwise sedentary objects become projectiles, it's time to stop." Or as he later quipped, "When shit starts to fly, it's time to say goodbye.". I'm 26. This is an important lesson I learned when I was 25. It's a lesson I never thought I'd confront. But then I gathered my things, and walked out. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Lauren in the States! Life through my eyes, which I hope are growing wider every day. Carnivores, beware: this requires a strong stomach. ;). I stopped stirring my pot, raised my head and repeated the question to myself. And then I stammered out loud. "Uhh." I drew a big, fat blank. Well, I had just made dinner for a friend and her sick husband. That was nice of me. I thought. But was I changing anyone's life? I enjoy that, certainly, but I also view it as a form of community service. I. These thoughts w...

As Christmas Eve was the only time I attended a church service in perhaps all of 2008, I decided to listen intently to the sermon. (No, the idea of a religion binge doesn't seem appropriate, but I thought I'd make the most of my time while I was there). This isn't an exact quote, but the minister shared some words from Rainer Maria Rilke that felt like they were meant for me:.

A Star Ain't Nothing But A Hole In Heaven. Sunday, May 13, 2007. You know you went to an international school when. Someone else wrote this, but here are some of my favorites. 1) You can't answer the question: "Where are you from? 2) You speak two (or more) languages but can't spell in any of them. 3) You flew before you could walk. 4) You run into someone you know at every airport. 5) You have a time zone map next to your telephone. 7) You speak with authority on the quality of airline travel. 19) You h...

http://jessicaletizia.blogspot.com/2007/06/medusa-rising.html

A Star Ain't Nothing But A Hole In Heaven. Friday, June 22, 2007. Sometimes you are forced to deal with the darkest side of yourself. Today, I'm ashamed of how I reacted, and I'm upset at the inability I displayed at controlling my own emotions. Not only that, but the entire episode was ineffectual. He apologized. In a lengthy letter for being "unchristian" (note the irony), but I know I didn't make him respect my or anybody else's. Or would I become the righteous monster of last night?

I want to thank you and through you, the members of your congregation and the Jewish cadets and veterans at the Citadel for your sympathy in my overwhelming sorrow. Your tribute to my loved one touches me and fills me with gratitude to you. She was my life and the way is very dark without her. I can seek strength only from above. Links to this post. A Star Ain't Nothing But A Hole In Heaven. Monday, February 26, 2007. This past week, I had some moments of glory:. 1) I got to hang out with the band Sugarcult. Who were the headliners at our Homecoming concert. I spent both Friday and Saturday nights hanging out and drinking with band members. It was cool and weird to see them on and off stage, such different personalities. Definitely a weekend to remember. 3) I practiced for the LSAT and am getting semi-confident that I can score in the 90 th.

A Star Ain't Nothing But A Hole In Heaven. Friday, December 08, 2006. Sometimes it's depressing, because I want to feel like my life matters. But when I get humbled by nature like this, it proves that I can only accomplish little compared to the world. What is it about humans and feeling like they need to change the world? And this sense of urgency. Links to this post. Wednesday, December 06, 2006. Yes, yes. I know. It'll be fine in the end and I will get it done. It always is. But uuugh.

http://jessicaletizia.blogspot.com/2007/04/shane-bernier.html

A Star Ain't Nothing But A Hole In Heaven. Sunday, April 22, 2007. Here's an article by an Ottawa Newspaper that caught my attention. I'm mailing him a card tomorrow and if you read this blog, please consider doing it as well. I did some online research, and it's not a hoax. For most of us, birthday cards are a nice gesture. But for Shane Bernier, every card will mean the world - as in world record. Shane Bernier has received 10,000 cards so far. Another 1,000 come daily. Everywhere he looks, there are c...

Living in Liberia

A rambling blog that offers a view of what life is like in Monrovia, Liberia in 2011. Thursday, August 11, 2011. The city that never sleeps. In my last post. I mentioned that it takes four days (3 nights) to travel to and from Zwedru. The first and last nights are spent in Ganta, Liberia's New York City. Located near the Liberia-Guinea border, Ganta is known as "the city that never sleeps," and it lives up to that name. What are they doing? Where are they going?
