Lyndsey Barratt - Image Culture: Expectations

http://www.ldb2120.blogspot.com/2010/03/expectations.html

Lyndsey Barratt - Image Culture. View My Visual Archive. Saturday, March 6, 2010. By taking this course, I hope to have a stronger sense not only of how image culture effects our perceptions, but also how they influence our decisions and interests. I think it is important to be conscious of the power of images and iconography in our culture, and am looking forward to learning how this applies to other fields beyond the arts. Lyndsey Barratt - Image Culture: The Art/Science Connection

Lyndsey Barratt - Image Culture. View My Visual Archive. Saturday, April 17, 2010. Reflecting on this course post-class sessions, it is clear to me why I was drawn to taking this course in the first place! Rarely have I had the opportunity to integrate science and technology into courses I have taken on art history, and it fascinating to me that this art/science connection is so strong for me, even though I hardly recognized it beforehand. Lyndsey Barratt - Image Culture: Images: Virtuosi between Being and Not-Being

http://www.ldb2120.blogspot.com/2010/04/brandt-images-virtuosi-between-being.html

Lyndsey Barratt - Image Culture. View My Visual Archive. Thursday, April 1, 2010. Images: Virtuosi between Being and Not-Being. Our class presentations got me thinking about the varied ways that we read and process images in visual culture, and what factors or characteristics influence those methods. How much of what we bring to the process of spectatorship subsequently influences what we see and its apparent “inherent” value? Brandt differentiates between that which is visible, and that which permits us...

Thursday, April 1, 2010. Article-People getting hired from their Flickr images. I thought that this article would be interesting for the class from "The New York Times". It tells a terrific story about a woman who uploaded her Hawaii vacation pictures onto Flickr, only to be hired by stock image company Getty Images. She now makes a monthly income from license fees of her photos. Here is the link. Http:/ www.nytimes.com/2010/03/30/business/media/30photogs.html. April 10, 2010 at 7:52 AM.

Sunday, April 18, 2010. Although the conversation moved on, I was left wondering why this was so. Could it be that images of 9/11 were so abundant that people have become numb to some degree? Is it because the majority of dinner guests were living in the NYC-Long Island area when it happened versus the photo in discussion was taken in Sudan? Is it because 9/11 was an act of terrorism - humans against humans, whereas the image of the vulture and the boy is nature at its worst? May 6, 2010 at 2:49 AM.

Monday, March 15, 2010. I went to see the movie The Hurt Locker of Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow. In my opinion the entire movie was based on image emotion effect on a realistic documentarry type of style. Very heavy, emotional, and some realistic (unfortunately this hapend in the world). According to the NYtimes. 8220;The Hurt Locker,”. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow. The movie uses the images to address emotion to the extreme points. The movies also make a conection between individual and society.

Tuesday, April 20, 2010. Visual Journalism We Can All Take Part In. This morning I read an article that reminded me a lot of class and I thought it could be fun for us to participate in A Timely Global Mosaic, Created by All of Us. The basic idea is that everyone is invited to join in taking a photo on May 2 at the exact same moment to create a mosaic of one single moment in the life of our planet. Then you're supposed to send your photo to Lens, the photography blog of the New York Times.
