Click on an image to enlarge. Toxic poison in cigarette smoke damages the lungs, heart and brain. These dangerous chemicals cause:. Cancer of the mouth. Emphysema—a lung disease. Bronchitis—inflammation of air passages to the lungs. Strokes—interruption of blood flow to the brain. Kidney and liver damage. Other health problems from smoking are:. Yellow staining of teeth. Hearing and vision loss. Painful ulcers in the stomach and small intestine. Decreased blood flow in fingers and toes.

Instead of trying to slowly cut back on smoking, quit all at once. This is the easiest and most effective. Do not carry cigarettes. Quit smoking one day at a time. Do not think about the next year, next month, next week or even tomorrow. Concentrate on not smoking from the time you wake up in the morning until you go to sleep at night. Work on developing the attitude that you are doing yourself a big favor by not smoking. You are quitting because you care about yourself. Be proud that you are not smoking.
