Random musings of a new EM Resident in NYC
Pets, Posts and Medical Mysteries: September 2009
http://leahhamburg.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Pets, Posts and Medical Mysteries. Random musings of a new EM Resident in NYC. Sunday, September 20, 2009. My parents are still gladly suffering through "ridgeback puppyhood" with Deka, who is now 8 months old! Rob and I went over for some sukiyaki the other night (and some furrball time). Sukiyaki = the best food EVER. Japanese mish-mosh of yumminess. Back to the nonexistent point. I was really impreesed with how Dek is doing! The whole point is to just share some pics to the pets! Pets, Posts and Medical Mysteries. Random musings of a new EM Resident in NYC. Monday, October 19, 2009. Enjoying NYC once again. Took a while, but I finally got back around to enjoying NYC - or just enjoying everything in general. I just finished a month on the Acute Care Surgery service at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. I learnt a lot, I worked hard, did 30-hour call ( horrible. First, there were the 3rd row seats in the endzone at the Eagles game in Philly. Thursday found me at Carnegie hall with Ele...

Pets, Posts and Medical Mysteries. Random musings of a new EM Resident in NYC. Sunday, September 12, 2010. Let's see. what is going on in my life since last time I wrote? I wish I could regail you with "The tales of labor and delivery! I basically walked away from my time on L&D thinking "wow, what a wasted, boring two weeks! I saw about 2 patients a day! However, upon further reflection, I realized that I saw some very important things. A woman who I now have the highest respect for who did the entirety...
Pets, Posts and Medical Mysteries: On Restraint (or Lack Thereof)
http://leahhamburg.blogspot.com/2010/03/on-restraint-or-lack-thereof.html
Pets, Posts and Medical Mysteries. Random musings of a new EM Resident in NYC. Friday, March 26, 2010. On Restraint (or Lack Thereof). For the 3rd time in the last month. It hasn't been a good month in that respect. So, I'm feely crappy. I sleep, drag myself to the shower and then decide "you know what? I'm going to lie of the couch and listen to some relaxing music." I sifted through my iPod and picked 1) August's Rhapsody. From August Rush, 2) Massenet's Meditation from Thais. Is an incredibly challeng...

Science of Running: October 2012
http://scienceofrunning.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Trying to find the meaning of life through science and running. Thursday, October 11, 2012. Life is a jar full of golf balls. This has been circulating on facebook, I really like it:. When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 Beers. Ey agreed that it was. If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time an...
Science of Running: May 2013

Trying to find the meaning of life through science and running. Thursday, May 9, 2013. The perfect amount of pain. When I got home from class in the early afternoon, the sun was beginning to poke out from under the clouds. Finally! Sitting at my desk with the piles of notes sitting right next to me now, I still feel that sense of calm, of letting go. I wish it was easier to hold on to it. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Trying to find the meaning of life through science and running. Tuesday, January 29, 2013. And yet, to take exams means you have to memorize. And preferably remember, at least for a few hours, while you are taking the test. Or in the case of doctors, preferably for good. Right? And now I don't even remember what my point was. Science of Running: Clerkship year random thoughts
http://scienceofrunning.blogspot.com/2014/04/clerkship-year-random-thoughts.html
Trying to find the meaning of life through science and running. Monday, April 7, 2014. Clerkship year random thoughts. Then suddenly I am on an easier rotation, and I get home at 3 most days, and have hours and hours before I have to go to bed - sometimes I don't even know what to do with myself - I wonder what people who have 9-5 jobs actually do in all that free time they have? Then there was a session dedicated to the Meyer Briggs Personality Test. The only thing I think this means is that it's good t...

Trying to find the meaning of life through science and running. Friday, September 20, 2013. I was thinking about all these things while out on a run in Central Park a couple of days ago. I am training for the 2013 NYC Marathon, which is just a little over a month away. I am really excited! Having a 9-5 job was so nice! And now I am just really excited to be just 3 months away from starting clinical clerkships! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). New York, NY, United States. View my complete profile.

Science of Running: December 2012
http://scienceofrunning.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Trying to find the meaning of life through science and running. Monday, December 31, 2012. Some things to contemplate for 2013: more patience, less facebook, more running, less complaining, and focus on the things that matter more, not on the small things. Now I am off to run the usual midnight race in Central Park. Here are some of the pictures that made me nostalgic, happy or sad about this past year:. Sasha, who reminds me of that whole crazy living arrangement I had for the first half of the year.
Science of Running: February 2014

Trying to find the meaning of life through science and running. Wednesday, February 19, 2014. Or the surgery call-room? I look everywhere but it was nowhere to be found. I must have dropped it somewhere in the hallway. It's a 20 floor hospital with countless units, and my team has patients on 5 different floors some days. My hat could be anywhere! He would ask. "Somewhere in Bellevue maybe" would be my reply. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). New York, NY, United States. View my complete profile.
Science of Running: Home away from home
http://scienceofrunning.blogspot.com/2013/11/home-away-from-home.html
Trying to find the meaning of life through science and running. Tuesday, November 26, 2013. Home away from home. I usually travel to Kansas for Thanksgiving to see the dear family I once lived with when I was in high school, now more than 13! Years ago. Going there always feels closest to going Home, with a capital "H". But this year I have already used up my travel budget to go to El Salvador, Montreal, and then going home to Budapest for Christmas in a month! Oh no no no! Your Home is the World :).

Tuesday, 11 October 2011. We're on the BBC! I was approached by Jolene. Last year about the possibility of taking part in a project for the BBC online. I was super excited but slightly nervous about the prospect of being filmed but also hearing the sound of my voice in the finished piece! When I eventually found out that I'd been chosen as one of the films for the project we had made the move to our new HQ. The date was set for filming and both Jolene and Rich came to Dumfries for the day. So after a mon...

July 22, 2014. Portsmouth Race for Life 10k! Although I haven’t been blogging for a while (OK, OK, 4 months), I have actually been running. As I wasn’t really following any sort of training plan and I was pretty busy doing other things, I didn’t really feel like blogging about my runs. When the weather got a bit warmer, I finally got out of the gym. Mum and Jen were going to run the whole way, but I wasn’t at that stage so my aim was just to keep going with them as far as I could before reverting t...

Pets, Posts and Medical Mysteries
Pets, Posts and Medical Mysteries. Random musings of a new EM Resident in NYC. Saturday, June 25, 2011. Here I am, back from my first shift as a doctor in Guatemala! I had a ton of fun working in the Pop Wuj Clinic. I got to do what I love - medicine somewhere totally new. All the staff (ie- med student volunteers, a guatemalan doc and one nurse) were super friendly. I have to say, though, the gem of the experience yesterday was the patients. My favorite patient of the day was my last. At the end of ...
