Life On Wall Street: Whiskey Cabinet Construction
http://lifeonwallst.blogspot.com/2015/01/whiskey-cabinet-construction.html
Life On Wall Street. Adventures living in and with a turn of the century mining town house. Sunday, January 18, 2015. All of the lumber for the case and door frame is from one board. That board was part of a batch of lumber I bought last summer from a guy who was retiring. The board was about 11" wide and had been thicknesses to 3/4". It has a bit of a cup to it so I decided it would work well for this cabinet as i didn't want the case to be a full 3/4" thick. I lightly sanded between coats with 220 to s...

Life On Wall Street. Adventures living in and with a turn of the century mining town house. Wednesday, November 12, 2014. Prototyping as part of the Design process. One of the projects that has been creeping closer to the top of my list is a pair of side tables to go with the TV stand that I finished earlier this year. I've been working on the design off and on all year. It is 13.5-14" wide and the longer piece has almost 60 inches of clear stock, perfect for two table tops. Here it is in the future home...

Life On Wall Street: August 2014

Life On Wall Street. Adventures living in and with a turn of the century mining town house. Wednesday, August 20, 2014. Cherry Bookcase - Design and construction. Earlier this year a friend asked if I would be willing to build a bookcase for her. She has an old bookcase in a hallway and wants to replace it, though she couldn't find something shallow enough. We talked over what she was looking for and I did some sketching. After getting feedback on the sketches I built a quick sketchup model. The side ski...
Life On Wall Street: September 2015

Life On Wall Street. Adventures living in and with a turn of the century mining town house. Monday, September 21, 2015. 8 Month Side Tables. I've finally given up thinking I'm going to actually "catch up" on the last 8, 9? Months. So instead I'll just go pick up more recently and try to go from there. The basic frames went together quickly using dominos. The shelf panels were sized and rabbeted to fit into the rails. Hopefully it won't be another 8 months before I post again, and maybe I'll even get arou...

Life On Wall Street. Adventures living in and with a turn of the century mining town house. Tuesday, October 6, 2015. Natalie wanted a linen cupboard for the guest bathroom. We found some examples of shaker style cupboards that she liked. I drew some quick plans and rounded up some material, poplar lumber and birch plywood. A few hours with the track saw and a couple dozen dominos later, I had a case. Poplar bead board made the door panels. A little filler and it was time for some milk paint. The shelf p...

Life on waterfall road. Monday, March 28, 2011. 29 March 2011.Rainy day, grass growing, and weeds growing. Nothing new in that. We have had the wettest summer and the only vege that really seems to enjoy it here is the cucumber. The eggplants hate it, the egg laying chooks hate it, and even the mossies are leaving us alone. The passionfruit vine that did so well last year has had 1 flower! Then we would be self sufficient. Wednesday, December 16, 2009. Our four baby butchies are growing up, very adolesce...

Subscribe in a reader. Tuesday, July 21, 2009. I arrived in Istanbul, safe and sound, despite what I imagined and even after I made out a mental will. I'm sorry Iberia Airlines, but I will never fly with you again. It was like the third world of airplanes. . We didn't have our own tv. We had to pay for booze. Pay. Money. And we didn't have our own tv! I arrived in Istanbul, rushed to the visa line (make me a Turkish citizen already! Friday, July 10, 2009. The French Lose Again. 3) Canadians came in third...
