Life with Lucas & Nora

Friday, June 13, 2014. 1st day of school (August 2013). Kindergarten marks the end of his innocence to me. He's starting to ask me big questions. How does a baby get out of your belly? Is Santa Clause real? How does someone become deaf? Someday soon, maybe even next February at the Cochlear Celebration. I want to meet him so badly. To thank him, to shake his hands, and probably to cry uncontrollably in his arms. I could spend hours telling you about the great things that Mrs. Burns did with her Kinde...

Life with Lucas & Nora: December 2011

http://lifewithlucasrc.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, December 24, 2011. Like this that I'd like to freeze in time. My two beautiful children on Christmas Eve, all dressed up for church and festivities. Next year, Nora will be well on her way to being a little person, leaving her babyhood. Like this that made my heart melt. As I watched my little boy turn four, and beamed with pride at all the obstacles he's overcome in his short life. Like right now, Christmas Eve, when I sit her with immense gratitude to Graeme Clark and Dr. K, for giving th...

Life with Lucas & Nora: three years

http://lifewithlucasrc.blogspot.com/2012/01/three-years.html

Monday, January 9, 2012. Happy 3rd Hearing Birthday, Lucas! Life is so normal. It's complicated." It's tough to explain to a 4-year-old the sorrow, joy and relief that those videos evoked. Totally worth it in exchange for more mommy therapy. That 7 month hiatus I took from my job to teach Lucas to listen and speak? It was worth every moment spent and every penny lost. Oh my gosh, I bought Sophie that same shirt (in pink)! Its cute, isnt it? January 9, 2012 at 7:38 PM. January 9, 2012 at 11:19 PM. What a ...

Life with Lucas & Nora: August 2013

http://lifewithlucasrc.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 25, 2013. Tomorrow Lucas starts Kindergarten. I've been doing a lot of reflecting in the past few weeks leading up to this day. 5 1/2 years ago, I never would have dreamed that Lucas would be attending our neighborhood elementary school like a typical kid. To his class. I'm really looking forward to both times to help make his transition smooth. At the beginning of August Nate and I attended the PA Low Incidence Conference. Ode to Lucas on the Night Before Kindergarten. Over time it became...

Life with Lucas & Nora: 5 in 5 years

http://lifewithlucasrc.blogspot.com/2014/01/5-in-5-years.html

Thursday, January 9, 2014. 5 in 5 years. Today we celebrate 5 years of hearing for Lucas. FIVE YEARS. Here are five things I've learned in five years of life with Lucas and his cochlear implants. 1 The cochlear implant is now only a. Of who he is and of who I am. 2 Advocacy continues to be a top priority and is never ceasing. 3 Lucas's future is clearer, but new challenges continue to emerge. 4 Support is so important, both forwards and backwards. Im a Spanish audioprothesist and I follow you since 2009&...

Life with Lucas & Nora: May 2011

http://lifewithlucasrc.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 24, 2011. After a short hiatus, I'm back with some updates! 1 Lucas has had a little language boom, like today. We've been working on "do" support, and he's finally using it unprompted. Instead of "Mommy, you want to play outside with me? He's consistently asking, "Mommy, do. You want to play outside with me? He was even emphasizing the do. 4 Lucas has woken up the past 3 morning dry. Expectations for overnight. We'll see what happens tomorrow! Its stickiness, and I would replace it when we ...

Keeping us busy  | My trifecta child

https://mamatoadeafboy.wordpress.com/2015/03/30/keeping-us-busy

Deaf plus child [deaf, autism and ADHD ]. Laquo; A very belated post : Cochlear N6. March 30, 2015 by trifectaMama. As for mom, it can clearly be overwhelming some days (most days) when I am constantly puzzle piecing my guy and trying to find the best off the fly supports to get him through the day. Most times, I just don’t know what to do, other times I lose my patience, other times, I cry with him. Autism friendly event in carlstadt, nj. Swimming Program in Hoboken, NJ. Meet Cal...: March 2010

http://meetcal.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

I guess this blog is due for an update. Cal is about 18 months now and he is still our chubby happy lil’ dude. He has finally figured out the walking thing and wobbles around the house like he owns the place. His religion is still the same: he worships food and his big sister. Cal is doing incredibly well in both speech and sign. He probably has about 8-10 words:. Animal Sounds (rooster, cow, dog, horse, duck). Is still ah-ah, but we are working with him. Would you recommend it? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Meet Cal...: June 2009

http://meetcal.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Cal’s still a ridiculously tempting piece of chunky. Every time we leave the house people can’t help but kiss his fat cheeks. Here are a few pics we had done recently:. Cal's first words (signed of course). He said his first words! Just like a hearing kid who says "Mama" for the first time, a deaf child will sign it. I know, I know, lots of kids sign at nine months, but for some reason it is really exciting to see your child sign when it is his only. Londyn did the same thing. What is that all about?

Meet Cal...: Dad's Sentimental Rant

http://meetcal.blogspot.com/2009/07/dads-sentimental-rant.html

I’m not saying that there are not trials and heartbreaks. I’m not saying it’s easy or painless. I’m just saying there are good parts too. And the older they get, happiness and acceptance start to take over all of the worry and sadness. Like I said, it gets better.much better. That is such a wonderful way to think about it! That is exactly how I feel about my daughters hearing loss. And all parents go through hard times. Its the hardest job in the world, but so rewarding. July 24, 2009 at 12:08 PM. Cal is...

Meet Cal...: March 2009

http://meetcal.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Dealing with a Child's Hearing Loss. I was reading an article in the AG Bell's winter newsletter, and I wanted to share the closing paragraph with you. I think this is such great advice for any parent who learns that their child is deaf. I am just going to quote it. The author of the article is Heather Frost. I know hearing loss is tough, especially as a parent of a toddler who is deaf. Try not to grieve too long about what has happened. You as a parent could not have prevented it from happening. The Glover's

Thursday, August 4, 2011. A few weeks ago the company my Dad works for had a party at Alabama Adventure. He invited all of us to go. Lucas was absolutely loving his life. We put on his floatie and off he went! They have an awesome kiddie area. The water is just deep enough for parents to sit in and still not be over the kid's heads. We could hardly keep up with him. They had these slides that he loved and one of us would be at the bottom and one of us at the top and he just went over and over again.

Life With Lucien | Smile! You’re at the best WordPress.com site ever

You’re at the best WordPress.com site ever. Outer Space, Sailing, and Planfulness. July 5, 2015. Lucien has been very interested in outer space lately, so I created an outer space book basket with both fiction and non-fiction options, planned a trip to the planetarium to explore the exhibits and watch a planetarium show, and came up with a few fun activities for at home. A trip to another library for story time, and two Discovery Center days. Lucien was over the moon because Dad got to come and see t...
