Good Shit on the Brian Lehrer Show | universityoflies
https://universityoflies.wordpress.com/2014/05/13/good-shit-on-the-brian-lehrer-show
Roasting marshmellows in phd hell. Good Shit on the Brian Lehrer Show. Leave a comment ». Hello earthlings. If you haven’t heard this discussion on the Brian Lehrer show, it’s pretty good. Nothing new if you’ve been living the dream yourself but a lot of the callers have interesting personal stories to share. Should I go to Grad School? I’m in a bit of a personal non drug induced haze these days but will be writing some new shit soon. May 13, 2014 at 16:17. Laquo; Incoherent viva ramblings.

Roasting marshmellows in phd hell. Leave a comment ». I’m trying to study for my viva, and by ‘try’, I mostly mean freak out and create post-apocalyptic scenarios that involve the examiners trying to eat my puny brains whilst my books gather a layer of dust not unlike that of Miss Havisham’s wedding cake. In the meantime, I’ll leave you with this link, where a fellow blogger has written much more eloquently about this sadistic process:. Http:/ hatemyphd.blogspot.com/2014/01/viva-voce.html. How I Feel After Submitting My PhD | universityoflies
https://universityoflies.wordpress.com/2013/12/28/how-i-feel-after-submitting-my-phd
Roasting marshmellows in phd hell. How I Feel After Submitting My PhD. I remember talking to a friend who had submitted hir phd a few months ahead of me and after all of the congratulations and buying of drinks, I asked how they felt. 8220;Eh, just the same as before,” my friend replied. 8221; I definitely did not say. “Don’t you feel relieved? 8220;Not really. The whole thing is kind of anticlimactic,” said my friend. Hopefully the examiners agree. It’s funny, because the disparity between the ...
Misconceptions and Missed Opportunities - Leaving Academia: December 2013
http://aimlessjones.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Misconceptions and Missed Opportunities - Leaving Academia. Monday, December 30, 2013. How do things look now? It's been a few months since the last update. The reason being, I didn't want to 'jinx' myself. It's not that I am superstitious, but I wanted to wait until things had cleared a bit. What is going on now? I ended up dropping in personally to the company I had been in contact with since January a couple of times, and landed an audition. Everything seemed to go well, but I was still a bit caut...
Misconceptions and Missed Opportunities - Leaving Academia: January 2013
http://aimlessjones.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Misconceptions and Missed Opportunities - Leaving Academia. Tuesday, January 22, 2013. Good science or politics? First of all, let me define what I personally believe entitles someone to being included as an author on a manuscript:. 1 Direct writing of the paper. 3 Performing experimental work involved in obtaining the data for the paper. 4 The PI (that's the reason I have a job and it is their lab). A couple things have come to light during the past few years of my postdoc career:. But it didn't happen&...
Misconceptions and Missed Opportunities - Leaving Academia: How are you faring?
http://aimlessjones.blogspot.com/2015/02/how-are-you-faring.html
Misconceptions and Missed Opportunities - Leaving Academia. Wednesday, February 18, 2015. How are you faring? It's been a long time. A really long time. I'm still pressing on in the job that I first got when I left. It's good and bad. It's nice that it isn't a really big company so it's not like you have to steer a supertanker to effect change. It's not so nice that it's a small company that is lacking a lot of procedure. Sometimes, it's too short-sighted, as I talked about on the last post, but it reall...
Misconceptions and Missed Opportunities - Leaving Academia: June 2015
http://aimlessjones.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Misconceptions and Missed Opportunities - Leaving Academia. Sunday, June 7, 2015. As if the Ph.D. weren't enough. well, it isn't enough. I'm now leafing through catalogs of different programs in the business world. The one that seems to have the most merit, at least, in terms of increasing earning power according to Harvard, is the MBA. It's weird to think of going back to school. Part of me says, "Seriously? Or MBA or a business degree with Accounting, or at the very least (still a long slog) a project ...

Roasting marshmellows in phd hell. This post is long overdue. But every time I’ve sat down to write it, I come down with a terrible case of ennui. And boredom is so much worse when its french, no? The whole thing was so strange that a month later, I still don’t think I’ve been able to process my feelings about it. I’m done cooking FOREVER, bitches! But here I am still, so obviously it didn’t come to that. Maybe I should feel vindicated? But why did I put myself through this torture to begin with? This is...

Misconceptions and Missed Opportunities - Leaving Academia: Hectic pace
http://aimlessjones.blogspot.com/2014/05/hectic-pace.html
Misconceptions and Missed Opportunities - Leaving Academia. Monday, May 19, 2014. This is good and bad. Good: any single problem is not important enough to piss and moan about for months. Bad: you no longer have time to fully employ your reasoning and evaluate (and re-evaluate) the solution. It's hectic. It's a madhouse. But at the end of the day, you can forget about it. September 9, 2014 at 9:54 PM. Thanks for sharing your academic/career path. I am glad that you are thriving in industry (biotech?

Review: The Raven King. January 12, 2017. I did not expect to love the Raven Cycle when i picked it up. I thought, “I don’t know about this whole YA thing, but I want to know what people are talking about.” Now I’ve reached the end of Stiefvater’s final book in this series,. And I want to talk about it too, because I’ve been completely hooked from the first book and the last one still hasn’t let me go. About the book: Blue and her Raven Boys must. Or not they were the situation.”. My reaction: 5 out of 5...

Funeral Durge for Lappy. Apr 7th, 2010 at 8:26 PM. Well I won't be around much. Turns out HP was aware of huge issue with my laptop model that results in it becoming one giant paperweight. Of course I don't discover said issue until 2 years after warranty ends. So I'm left with choice $400 to repair lappy (a fix according some internet forums doesn't work forever) or saving up to replace it with an IPAD or something else. Mar 20th, 2010 at 10:01 PM. Thank Goodness It's Payday! Mar 14th, 2010 at 12:24 PM.
