Adolescent and adult dogs on tap. I am a veterinarian and writer. Basically animals are my life! View my complete profile. Thursday, April 12, 2012. The Magnificent 7 are now going outside a couple of times every day. Not for long as it is still cool and has rained a bit but enough to march to the end of the big fenced yard and back. They are excellent pups! They often *** and poop while outside, run and get tired. They are learning to beware of people's feet - OK, my feet anyway :). Now they ignore it.

I am a veterinarian and writer. Basically animals are my life! View my complete profile. Friday, June 17, 2011. Tonight my son Tom will graduate as co-valedictorian from Westmoreland. A high school graduation is similar to the graduation our dogs get from their basic obedience class. Whether the class is from our local Pet SMART, Mohawk Valley Dog Training Club, Syracuse Obedience Training Club or one of the other local training classes, graduation marks both a beginning and an end. Some days are golden. I am a veterinarian and writer. Basically animals are my life! View my complete profile. Thursday, June 24, 2010. Some days are golden. I am behind - I know! But I am still smiling as I go back to June 12. I was in Burlington, Vermont, heading for the campus of the University of Vermont. It was about 6 pm and I had Hokey with me. We were going to the draw for the VST (Variable Surface Tracker) test - the toughest competition within AKC. What happened is here below:. Dog 3 - us!

Time flies or humiliation on the run. I am a veterinarian and writer. Basically animals are my life! View my complete profile. Monday, January 25, 2010. On Saturday our obedience held their second Dog Expo. What a wonderful event for a Saturday in January! Flash (Corgi) and Baloo (Aussie) did carting, plus Flash represented Pembroke Welsh Corgis in the breed parade. She and Dani (Terv) did tracking, plus Dani helped with my health talk and represented Belgian Tervurens. Lots of fun! I am putting in a plu...

My version of our track - by Hokey. I am a veterinarian and writer. Basically animals are my life! View my complete profile. Sunday, December 19, 2010. Both Hokey and I are still smiling! I am still so in awe of his ability. What a dog! Of course, he doesn't get to brag too much here or Flash and Dani flatten him. Remission will last but I continue to do his supplements, special diet, etc and we will keep working. And we just ordered some custom bumper stickers - Canine Cancer Survivors Can Do! Deb didn'...

The Allie Chronicles: Like dogs? Like movies?

http://thealliechronicles.blogspot.com/2010/11/like-dogs-like-movies.html

Thursday, November 4, 2010. No, this is not a post waxing nostalgic about. Or other classic movies of the boy-loves-dog genre. Instead, I'm veering in a somewhat less reverent direction. Specifically, I invite you to check out the Empire Online Dogs Movie Poster Mash-up. It's totally irreverent, occasionally tasteless, and completely hilarious. My personal favorite is poster #5. Which I wish I could post on the Northern Virginia Dog Blog. It certainly sends the right message. View my complete profile.

The Allie Chronicles: Letting go

http://thealliechronicles.blogspot.com/2010/11/letting-go_14.html

Sunday, November 14, 2010. I decided to bag PC's and Windows forevermore and get a Mac - specifically, an iMac. And I love it. But now it's gone. There's no way of getting it back. I have to let it go. I know change is inevitable and a chance for growth. But with each passing year I resist it more and more. November 14, 2010 at 11:06 PM. I embrace some changes, but not others. But even those I embrace almost inevitably have some sort of edge. November 15, 2010 at 7:45 AM. View my complete profile.

The Allie Chronicles: January 2011

http://thealliechronicles.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, January 1, 2011. Until recently, Julie had been a little ambivalent as to what Allie's love for bananas meant with respect to her relationship with Julie. "I don't want Allie to love me just because I give her bananas," she'd say. "I want her to love me for me. I want to know she loves me. I'm no ethologist, so anything I say about the nature of canine feeling is at least somewhat speculative. But it seems to me that it's a mistake for Julie to say that Allie loves her just. Monday, June 28, 2010. Yesterday I saw what looked like a brindle-coated Greyhound mix channel her inner sled-dog by pulling her very young owner (maybe he was 7 or 8? Down the street in an effort to reach her destination: the two Labs with whom she apparently had a scheduled play date. (Why are some parents so idiotic. About the capacity of children to walk dogs? This morning, I saw the same dog head over to the same house for another play date - but this time she was by herself. Monday, June 21, 2010.

The Allie Chronicles: September 2010

http://thealliechronicles.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Friday, September 24, 2010. Lend me your ears. I'm very careful about Allie's ears. They get infected easily- mainly due to allergies, to which Golden Retrievers are notoriously prone. That's why I feed her raw food from this company. And take care that she consume no grain whatsoever. But I've also learned how important it is to keep her ears clean, so I do the job twice a week, without fail. As for Allie's antipathy to ear cleanings, I'm hoping that this task will be more palatable if I literally appea...

The Allie Chronicles: What if they COULDN'T swim?

http://thealliechronicles.blogspot.com/2010/10/what-if-they-couldnt-swim.html

Wednesday, October 27, 2010. What if they COULDN'T swim? Like probably a gazillion other animal-loving WaPo readers, I enjoyed reading about the swimming test. That the National Zoo gave to four lion cubs that were born in August. The photos of the cubs in both this morning's article and the website photo gallery. Some swim just fine, while others tend to flail about. Hence, the need for dogs to wear life jackets when boating.). But then I started wondering: what if one or more of the cubs. That won't ma...

The Allie Chronicles: I get lucky -- again

http://thealliechronicles.blogspot.com/2009/06/hit-woman.html

Wednesday, June 24, 2009. I get lucky - again. Nice picture, huh? That is my now former car. Meanwhile, my former vehicle, known affectionately as The Allie Car, has been written up as a total loss. I've turned the title over to the insurance company (hence, the "former" characterization) and given the tags to Virginia's DMV. I should get a check in the next day or so, at which point I'll go out and get Allie Car Number Two. As for Allie's broken seatbelt, I'm taking the advice of someone. Im glad youre ...

The Allie Chronicles: April 2010

http://thealliechronicles.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, April 27, 2010. The art of listening. Allie's not big into leisurely jaunts. All too often, when I take her for a walk, she gets a funny (evil? Glint in her eye and proceeds to grab her leash with her mouth. Occasionally, she simply holds it as we walk along together. More often, though, she pulls in the direction opposite the way we're traveling in an effort to start a game of sidewalk tug-of-war. How often do we really pay attention? How often do we give them a chance to do so? If he can't be ...

Sunday, June 21, 2015. A recent post to social media stated it well, that anti-intellectualism is hindering progress in this country.
