Under the Trident: September 2012
http://underthetrident.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Let the beauty we love be what we do. There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground. Rumi. Tuesday, 18 September 2012. Rishikesh (You Can Never Step in the Same River Twice). Feet in the Ganga - you can never step in the same river twice. I remember being charmed, on my last visit to Rishikesh, when a swami from the ashram I was staying in answered his mobile phone with this greeting. At its most basic, this means “I salute you,” or “I greet you.”. I was hoping to return to the Dayananda Ashram.

Let the beauty we love be what we do. There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground. Rumi. Sunday, 17 May 2015. In this time of transition, I came across these 25 minutes of continuous writing from 23rd April, 2011…. My fascination with footprints, walking and leaving no trace, the photo of our footprints, mine and Simone's side-by-side, hers sharp and indented, long walking across the wet sand, mine barely visible - do I exist on this earth? Let the beauty we love be what we do. There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground. Rumi. Thursday, 3 June 2010. Uncomfortable Bedfellows (or Frogs, Scorpions, Vipassana). The story of the last couple of weeks might explain why I am so enjoying the sort of grey that would have me plunging into a depression in London (and yes, I know the London version is chillier, but still). I’m not even really sure how to begin describing it…. For some reason, my little row of four was inhabited entirely by ...

Let the beauty we love be what we do. There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground. Rumi. Tuesday, 17 November 2009. Of course, whenever I quote anyone, you have to imagine the accent, which gives Indian English prose infinitely more music and grace than my transcriptions. 8221; is a frequent conversation opener. Class in the morning, and so far have spent four classes on one verse of Kathopanisad. The teaching is very traditional. First they chant the verse in Sanskrit, then they translat...

Under the Trident: Wild Life

Let the beauty we love be what we do. There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground. Rumi. Friday, 27 August 2010. Despite the bus misdirections (time of departure, final destination) given to me by my Ecuadorian volunteer co-ordinators, I arrived without mishap (unless you count a bag in the mud, but that’s standard) one drizzly night in Puerto Lopez, after the best part of twelve hours travelling. I was coming to volunteer for an organisation called Equilibrio Azul. The organisation’s a...
