Project 9–Woven Structures | madabouttextiles
https://madabouttextiles.wordpress.com/2012/08/30/project-9woven-structures
My textile course journal. Project 9–Woven Structures. Step one, obviously, was to make a frame for weaving. I came up with a simple set of instructions for a frame including a set of leashes on this website. 160; There are a variety of others on YouTube, but I liked the idea of the leashes for opening the alternate shed, making the weaving process easier and quicker. Stage 2 Basic Tapestry Weaving Techniques. This was really fun! Stage 3 Experimenting with Different Materials. Next I used thin strips o...

My textile course journal. Project 8, Stage 2–Experimenting with Structures. I thought I’d start this post by sharing a couple of structures I’ve seen recently. The first is called ‘Hedgerow Basket’ by Jane Bevan. I admired her work at the Bovey Tracey Contemporary Craft Fair in June. The second I saw as part of a display at the Hampton Court Flower Show, by an unknown craftsperson. I also thought it was worth revisiting some weavings I had done for previous exercises:. I started with the directions for ...

My textile course journal. Project 8–Stage 2–Exercise 3. Which usually have some sort of central motif, so I made two frames to fit one inside the other. This photo, along with a nice history of the dream catcher can be found on this website. We were asked to consider the effect of light and space between the yarns, and with this in mind I chose very fine wools in a variety of natural colours to create a lacy effect and to contrast with the fairly chunky frame. To make the rigid grid for this exercise I ...

My textile course journal. Sketchbook and Theme Book. In Sketchbook and Theme book. This is a fun idea along the lines of sketch crawling a ‘drink and draw’ night at the pub. Subject is drawn out of a hat. Kids loved it! Full size cartoon for my sisters House Book cover, and some stitched samples. Some of the photos are awful they are stitched on dissolvable stabiliser and the reflections are beyond my photographic skills! Sketchbook, page by page:. Playing around with computer embroidery:. Part Two and Part Three. Learning Log: Part One – Tutors Report. Learning Log: Part Three – Tutors Report. Learning Log: Part Two – Tutors Report. Monthly Archives: March 2012. This time I will try another sample of colour analysis from a photograph. I tend to work intuitively rather than by analysis of the concepts of colour and techniques other than collage. It still is and will for some time yet be a voyage of discovery for me as a student. I hope that I never stop learning something new. A different ...

This time I will try another sample of colour analysis from a photograph. Water colours have a serenity about them when being applied which helps me to develop a fairly standard format as suggested in the lessons but I want to vary my way of analysing colour perhaps by trying a drawing/sketch and using a variety of materials and fibres. Vet inte hur en låda kan vara så intressant, men nått är det. Money can buy happiness.

Giving new life to forgotten and discarded textiles. It’s getting chilly, let’s make a pair of slippers. October 28, 2014. Seen better days………. A browse on my favourite ideas site, Pinterest. Time for a new lease on life. To be honest the sheepskin and moosehide are both pretty tatty, but never mind, they’ll hang in there for a couple of years! New sheepskin would make a lovely sole. I managed to cut the pieces for the uppers out of the sleeves of the sweater, leaving the body for another project. I will...

Have you heard about the bird? Thursday, 14 October 2010.
