Monday, 9 February 2015. Compound words of dodgy origin. Classic classroom conversations happen without warning. Like this one that took place in an English lesson with my Year 3 class this morning. After a discussion of what compound words are and how we form them, the children were asked to see how many compound words they could make with "hand". They thought long and hard. Hand cream? No, two words. Hand wash? What is a handburger? It is what you eat with your chips. Do you mean hamburger?
