A Brief History of Florida's Railroads. Railroads first came to Florida in the 1860s with a line running from Fernandina Beach to Cedar Key. Since the Florida Railroad Museum is located in the Gulf Coast area, we will focus on the Plant System and Seaboard Air Line in that region. Manatee County railroads in the 1930's.

With only one paid staff member, the Florida Railroad Museum would not exist without the generous efforts of its volunteer members. From restoring old equipment and maintaining operating equipment, renewing the track and operating the train each weekend our volunteers are the backbone of this organization. Maintenance and restoration activities are scheduled throughout the week. Train operations and the gift shop run on weekends with occasional charter work during the week. The Florida Railroad Museum - Birthday Caboose

The Museum’s caboose is a great place for small family trips and birthday parties. It is available for charter on most weekend train rides. Private, 1.5 hour charter. Room for 16 people. The flat charter fee covers admission for up to 16 people for the entire 1.5 hour trip and a car host. Special events may have different charter rates.
