Our route passed very nice stand-alone houses with their own lock-up car garages, surely a relative rarity in this huge city. A wintery feel in Rikugien Gardens, brown grass and no cherry blossoms yet.

Lord Howe Island had long been a desirable travel destination for us, but we had previously put off one of two plans to visit there due to fears of too much wind and rain. 31 January, 2015. Snow and Sun, de l'anglais au Français. Visibility improving now. We can actually see the tarmac ahead of us. A lonely and desolate gas station provided us a cuppa. Arriving in Fredericton, we ran into another really heavy snow storm. At least the wind was light. Big fluffy flakes! The Hotel de Ville in Fredericton shows off in now brilliant sunshine. We undertook another 350km drive to get to the Gulf of St Lawrence, in brilliant sunshine, no wind, and still -10C. Talk about crisp!

11 October, 2014. Getting Ready for Nova Scotia. We’re getting into serious planning for our next major holiday – this time it will be a driving trip between New York City and Nova Scotia, Canada.
