Silk Road Ride: March 2009
http://silkroadride.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 25, 2009. On the (Silk) Road Again, Just Can't Wait to Get on the (Silk) Road Again! I'm taking advantage of the fact that I'm out from under the curtain of censorship in Myanmar to update this blog (Blogspot is censored in the Golden Smiling Land). Soon I will be out of Myanmar for good; at the beginning of June, my contract ends and I will finish an unprecedented three years of sedentary existence as a teacher and return to what I'm best at: nomadic explorations of the world. Late Sept...

Friday, July 08, 2005. Silk Road Ride, 2002: Part 1 (From Xian to Dunhuang). May 27, 2002, Dunhuang. Xian-Dunhuang, 2380 km, 23 days of cycling. I'm in Dunhuang, the little oasis on the edge of the Gobi Desert, taking a much-needed day away from the bicycle. I've been cycling almost every day since I started on May 3rd in Xian, and the constant exercise is catching up with my legs. Wikipedia's Silk Road article. The Silk Road Foundation. Articles on famous travellers along the Silk Road). I made my way b...

Veering Through Vietnam: July 2006
http://vietnamveering.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, July 08, 2006. And now, the end is here, it's time to face the final curtain. Ottawa, July 7. Here I sit at my mother's computer, back in the order, quiet and expensive surroundings of Canada's capital (and my birthplace, almost 38 years ago). contemplating the fact that my bike trip is now well and truly over. The past few weeks have been a very different experience from the rest of the bike trip, an uneventful but relaxing addendum spent mostly on beaches and in buses. Is good fuel for cycling.

Veering Through Vietnam: May 2006
http://vietnamveering.blogspot.com/2006_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 30, 2006. Random Musings, Vignettes and Thoughts. A few disconnected thoughts from the road, accumulated over the past few weeks. Why is it that, as I've gotten further south, where it's hot all the time, it's become harder and harder to find cold beer and decent ice cream? Most places, I have to have ice cubes in my beer to make it drinkable, and ice cream is as scarce as hen's teeth. Don't people here find it as hot as I do? I thought I'd seen every possible method of rowing a boat during ...

Veering Through Vietnam: June 2006
http://vietnamveering.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 15, 2006. Sai-going, Sai-going, Sai-gone! Saigon, 4020 km from the start. I escaped from the hot and unpleasant confines of National Route 1A this morning and rode into surprisingly civilized and quiet Saigon, vastly relieved to be out of the traffic, diesel fumes and ear-splitting din of the highway. At me during this trip. I used to think it was a greeting. Then I changed my classification to that of a challenge or a demand. Then I realized that it was the equivalent of zoo-g...The after...

Balkan Blitz: An Ignominious End to the Blitz
http://balkanblitz.blogspot.com/2009/12/ignominious-end-to-blitz.html
The story of a hurried bicycle tour through the chilly Balkans in November and December, 2009. Wednesday, December 23, 2009. An Ignominious End to the Blitz. Tripoli, Libya, December 23. Please forgive the long gap between posts, but a lot has happened since I last wrote from Mostar, and I haven't had much Internet access to update my trip. Not that there is much to update, as you will see! On the limestone mountain slopes above. I set off the next morning, via the old Roman ruins of Salona. I was lucky ...
