Household Concerns: April 2006

Wherein the mundane is rendered magical. Tuesday, April 25, 2006. Talkin Bout Your Peak Oil Blues. When I was a little (reluctant) girl I used to love the smell of the gasoline pump. I may have been gender confused, but I had no qualms about the vaporliciousness of the gasoline pump. Yumtown. Yeah, those Swedes totally rock. Yeah, this administration sucks eggs. Cage-raised, chemical-pumped ones at that. Or maybe it's because I biked to work with my brother this morning. Whatever it is, it feels all right.

Wherein the mundane is rendered magical. Tuesday, July 25, 2006. Last night we began the evening soccer playing, and it was brilliant. Not brilliant as in the sun's brilliiance on our faces at 3 pm Sunday afternoon soccer, but brilliant as in I could run for longer and not feel like I was going to pass out from the heat. Matt, Armstead, Kathleen, Thaddeus, and Dante (a neighborhood kid). Chris, Dan, Karen, me, Michael, and Daneesha (two neighborhood kids, and siblings). There were a bunch of scrappy folk...

Wherein the mundane is rendered magical. Thursday, September 28, 2006. Final Views of Bergen. Most of these pictures were taken around the Bryggen, the pretty, old, quaint, drippingly cute area of Bergen. But all of Bergen is pretty. Full of cobblestone streets and little shops full of troll statues and wool sweaters. I'd live in this city if a beer wasn't 12 bucks a pint. That unicorn is gross. Check out its package. Ha ha. Posted by Elka @ 7:13 PM. Monday, September 25, 2006. We Don’t. Mind. I'm trying...

Household Concerns: December 2006

Wherein the mundane is rendered magical. Friday, December 29, 2006. Sleeping in fifteen minute segments. While there should've been a lag between Christmas and New Year's, and while things have been good and somewhat slow-paced and nice, while events should have held to their expected outcomes, it seems that none of these things can actually be counted upon. Perhaps the more appropriate question, when have I not been that way? Does that sound smug? Posted by Elka @ 3:25 PM. Monday, December 25, 2006.

Household Concerns: January 2007

Wherein the mundane is rendered magical. Wednesday, January 31, 2007. Here are some cutie pictures that Ozzie's dogwalker Darren took of her last year. It's hella hard to get pics of her since she's camera shy, so this is rather amazing. If anyone needs a dogwalker, ask me for Darren's info. He has the dog whisperer vibe going on. Man, I just made the sweet discovery of the Current's live music archive. The Coup, Josh Rouse, Eagles of Death Metal, Regina Spektor, among many, many others.yum. Some of you ...

Wherein the mundane is rendered magical. Wednesday, May 31, 2006. The Magnificent Unicorn of North Oakland. Holy crap dude. As if to reward me for finally setting foot in the macrobiotic vegan restaurant on the corner, this fair gentleman saluted me as I walked in. I'm sure this unicorn has something to do with Burning Man. Manzanita is a nice macrobiotic cafe. Pretty and clean and very Zen. A nice place to figure out your curriculum prompts. Wherein the mundane is rendered magical. Tuesday, October 31, 2006. To encourage the festivities and dress up, here is an excellent shot of friend Luci as your friendly neighborhood rollerderby sockmonkey. I will post pictures of our night's festivities later this week. Posted by Elka @ 12:19 PM. Saturday, October 28, 2006. The fresh sauce, yo! But not so soft they fall apart in the water. Serve with angel hair pasta and some shaved parmesan. Yum! 1) Am I really as socially awkward and unlikeable as Dan ...

Household Concerns: June 2006

Wherein the mundane is rendered magical. Thursday, June 29, 2006. Last night Karen, Thaddeus, Chris, and Brent came over for a backyard bbq. I tricked Dan into picking peas for the raw veggie bowls. Which were of course eaten with french onion dip. And ripple chips. Also on the menu: corn on the cob. Karen accused me of not being midwestern because we didn't have corncob holders when we were growing up. Dang, some people are just too poor to afford such luxuries! Posted by Elka @ 11:37 AM. A plea for help.
