I’m a Southerner and a former nomad, taking up residence in the Mid-West, east coast, and New Orleans over the years. I was a Hurricane Katrina survivor displaced to the mountains of North Carolina and have found my way back to New Orleans where I live with my partner of ten years and the strangest dogs and cats in creation. I am on my way to publishing my second book. New Orleans…You will get fat here…. 12 thoughts on “ About. March 31, 2016 at 8:02 am. March 31, 2016 at 8:54 am. Liked by 1 person.

Racial Diversity in Lesfic. December 11, 2016. I am black. There I said it, but I’m sure most readers already knew that considering there is a likeness of me on my Ylva Author’s Page. Regardless, let me get something out of the way first. I do not speak for the entire black or (romance) lesfic community that would be a blanket statement of sorts which is so not okay. This is my opinion. I mean, how could I be so ignorant? Publishers who were hesitant to feature POC on the covers. Publishers who were ...

Friday, February 18, 2011. Brown Improv: A hilarious excuse to visit the burbs. After living the first 32 years of my life in the suburbs of San Francisco, the last thing I've wanted to do since moving here is to hang out in the burbs of New Orleans. So, when my friend Anne invited me to see Brown. At City Bar in Metairie last Saturday night, I grumbled a bit and sighed a lot, but in the end gave in (who can resist a girls night out? Wednesday, July 1, 2015. Melting for Brown Butter Southern Kitchen and Bar. Several months ago, my friend Lorin and I met for lunch at Brown Butter Southern Kitchen and Bar. Located in Mid-City, Brown Butter opened up inside a strip mall early this year and seems to have made quite an impression in the six months following. Naturally, I couldn't leave without dessert and Lorin indulged me. We ordered a rice pudding that was not so great, but then again, I am not a huge fan of rice pudding. But, w...Yeah,...

Thursday, August 21, 2014. House of the week: Arts and Crafts on Arts Street. Although I am taking a much-needed break from house hunting, I can't help falling into my familiar, old patterns, browsing realty sites and wishing on stars. It's an addiction . I know. Oddly enough, while searching the listings, fantasizing about being a millionaire, I discovered this beauty on Arts Street. "Is this further punishment from the Gods? Tuesday, August 19, 2014. Friday, January 30, 2015. Overdue lunch at Willie Mae's Scotch House. A few months back, I made my first visit (with my good friend Dani) to Willie Mae's Scotch House. I know, you're thinking "What the heck took you so long? I really don't have any excuse. Suffice it to say, I finally made it. We also got a slice of Strawberry Cheesecake to share which was good, but likely not made in-house. Do I sound spoiled? Wednesday, January 28, 2015. House of the week: Fixer-upper on Banks Street. Friday, November 21, 2014. PoBoy Festival: Breaking the curse. Something, or someone, doesn't want me to go to the Oak Street Po-Boy Festival. I figure I can start out closer to River Road and work my way back up. If I leave my house at 9:30 AM, I can easily make it to #31 on the map, Bratz Y'all. Which is just a block short of Cowbell. Why am I trekking such lengths? I don't know about you, but slow-braised beef and poblanos smothered in chihuahua cheese sauce sounds like a killer second course. Is kick...

Monday, September 22, 2014. House of the week: Shotgun single on Royal Street. 8220;The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease for ever to be able to do it.” -J.M. Barrie. If I could fly, you'd find me soaring into a home just like this. Do I think it's over-priced? Yes Do I know the difficulties of living in the Faubourg Marigny? Yes I do. Would I still buy this house if I had the ducats? Yes, yes I would. Come fly with me? Thursday, September 18, 2014. Westbank eats at Perino's Boiling Pot.
