Friday, September 9, 2011. I am there - twin towers. What follows is what I wrote ten years ago:. I'm still there on that morning, that. I am there, in the tower. I am a teacher, taking my children on a field trip. We have viewed the fabulous view from the top of the tower. The kids have exclaimed over this and that landmark, the lady lifting up the lamp of freedom, the waterways, the Empire State Building that once overshadowed all others; it's been a wonderful experience for all of us.

Yesterday, in an effort to revive my long-unused phone message machine, I determined the microcassettes in the machine were not functional, and therefore decided to replace them with other microcassettes I had in storage. Thursday, June 23, 2011. Every so often, the generosity of complete strangers astounds me. As I drove into the grocery store parking lot today, I noticed six Mexican ladies, all wearing flowery aprons, getting out of a van carrying small cardboard boxes of various sizes, each heaped with dark red cherries. Where did they get those cherries? I asked aloud. "I want to ask them! I was about to drive by, when my companion said, "Well, why don't you? Where did you get your cherries? Thank you, thank you!

Friday, May 18, 2012. Everyone has to make a log cabin quilt at some point, right? This one is a soft, comfy, tied quilt made of flannel - for a birthday gift a few years ago. I've had leftovers sitting in my leftover bins ever since. Cabin on the Lake. There were enough leftovers to make a lap quilt without having to buy any extra fabric. Sunday, July 10, 2011. Mr Potato Head baker bags. Ugh A slight gag reflex ensues. Or at least used to. Along came the potato baker bag, and everything changed. No more wizened, wrinkled, bake-in-a-hurry potatoes. When baked in a quilted bag, potatoes retain their moisture, and - voila! And better texture, too. This one, if I remember correctly, was part of the Hound Puppies series, though I may be only giving a close approximation of the actual name. Of course, I can't leave the panel as is; I chopped it up and added wonky borders, maybe not wonky enough. I have decided that if you are only a little bit off, it looks like a mistake. Friday, February 24, 2012. Fixing a non-flat quilt. Easing in" creates hilly quilts. Easing is necessary when stitching curves, but the phrase, "Just ease it in," strikes terror to my heart when it is recommended for rectangular pieces that should fit without easing. Wednesday, June 20, 2012. A little reality check on how quilts are valued. This quilt is another UFO that I finished a couple months ago, and finally was able to photograph. The quilt top is from Jeannie Flory, made with her signature cheery bright colors. I don't know the name of the pattern. Wednesday, June 20, 2012. Puppies on a picnic. Puppies on a Picnic". This quilt has been in the works for a couple of years. I still have to finish the loose thread ends, but I couldn't resist taking a photo Right Now. And to think of all the time I spent cutting wedges of fabric off the sides of rectangles.
