Life and Travels of an Elderly Couple. September 15, 2010. The ‘Gap’ in our Highway. Laquo; Train Update! I didn’t realize that much damage had been done. On September 15, 2010. Yes it is going to take some time to fix, I have heard it was caused by a blocked culvert and of course flood waters trying to get through it. On September 15, 2010. I can imagine – that’s quite a bit of work that needs to be done. Thank goodness nobody was hurt when it collapsed. On September 15, 2010. On September 16, 2010.
A Family Weekend! | Muscat55
https://muscat55.wordpress.com/2010/08/31/a-family-weekend
Life and Travels of an Elderly Couple. August 31, 2010. We have just had a wonderful weekend with Peter and Gloria in Swan Hill. Three of their four children were there with their partners, so it was a great Family catch up. Dane has just bought a house with Jacey and, on inspection, we were most impressed with their purchase, and so pleased for them. Laquo; The Rail Debacle. Well, it was a lovely day for a drive! Are you sure Dad didn’t just detour to look at more farms? On August 31, 2010. I was just s...
Train Update! | Muscat55
https://muscat55.wordpress.com/2010/09/14/train-update
Life and Travels of an Elderly Couple. September 14, 2010. The XPTs are now back, starting yesterday, running all the way from Sydney to Melbourne. They also are planning to use the old, western, now standardised, Victorian track, along with goods trains, apparently about four a day, to help ‘bed’ it down. So what are Vline doing? Well may one ask. They are planning to finish the signaling for the western track, apparently some time near the end of January, hopefully 2011, so will our trains then run?

About me | Librarian's travels
https://librarianstravels.wordpress.com/about
Travel tales from a librarian. I’m a librarian at a university in Melbourne, Australia, and I yearn to escape to the wilderness. I like my wilderness with a bit of comfort though, and I also don’t mind visiting the occasional city… just so long as I can find good wine, good coffee, and somewhere to prop that has a great view. Travel tales from a librarian. Still dreaming of the Himalayas. December 17, 2011. Sincere apologies, life became far too busy too quickly after our return, and so my blogging about the Nepal trip fell into a black hole. I am still smarting at losing 2 precious days at home after our scheduled return when I imagined I would get my life into order before returning to work. OK, I think I am nearly over it. It made me wonder… would I have preferred this? Pass me the orange towel please…. From → Nepal. Fill ...

Travel tales from a librarian. October 10, 2011. Kathmandu, 5th and 6th October. We arrived at the Radisson Hotel after midnight, which our bodies thought was nearly 3am. When told our room number, 238, my heart sank because I know the views are fantastic a few floors up. We entered the room and it smelled of smoke – oops, forgot to ask for non-smoking. The porter was still there, so he arranged another room, alas the one next door! Back to the hotel to meet our guide Shahid and hear the instructions for...

Lost in transit | Librarian's travels
https://librarianstravels.wordpress.com/2011/11/22/lost-in-transit
Travel tales from a librarian. November 22, 2011. Saturday 29th October Kathmandu to Melbourne via Hong Kong. Once through immigration we joined the baggage screening queue. We stopped to go to the toilet, and then proceeded straight on to boarding the aircraft. No time at all to relax, eat, shop or whatever one does at Kathmandu airport. Pity, we had several thousand rupees to burn and didn’t even get a chance to exchange it, let alone spend it. Since I am writing this part many weeks later, I shall use...

Travel tales from a librarian. Dusting out the cobwebs. June 5, 2014. Two and a half years! That’s how long it is since I last posted here. I thought I better come across to this blog and dust off the cobwebs ready for my next holiday in a few weeks time. Actually it is #blogjune – the month that librarians across Australia blog every day about anything and everything as a way of encouraging us to engage with social media. Lukla to Namche Bazar | Librarian's travels
https://librarianstravels.wordpress.com/2011/10/11/lukla-to-namche-bazar
Travel tales from a librarian. Lukla to Namche Bazar. October 11, 2011. Friday 7th, Kathmandu to Lukla to Ghat. Saturday 8th, Ghat to Monjo. We woke up in a beautiful place this morning. We are in the valley near the Dudh Kosi (milk river) and the sun is shining again. Our walk today has us criss crossing the river several times. “Nepali flat” it is called – a little bit up, little bit down. Some would call it steep! Sunday 9th, to Namche. A few more buildings in Namche Bazar have sprung up, and the wrec...

Muscat55 | Life and Travels of an Elderly Couple
Life and Travels of an Elderly Couple. March 14, 2011. Well our twin rails between Albury and Melbourne have been finished about a week. So are our VicRail trains back running? It seems that now 45 VicRail drivers have to spend 12 weeks familiarising themselves with the track and as the XPT and freight trains are busy using the new up line and down line between Sydney and Melbourne, and if I have read it right, our drivers are only going to practice on the western rail? September 15, 2010. The ‘Gap...
