Another cast net technique (No Mouth Version). As always click on the pic for full image. First loop the hand line around your wrist, I use my right wrist for this method. Next coil the hand line in 18" loops in the same hand as pictured above. The next step is to grab the cast net about 1/3 to 1/2 the way down from the top, pictured here. Step 4 take the anchor line (lead line), lift it over your right hand, like you were going to turn it inside out. I repeat this step 3 times for a 10 foot net.

Pictured here the larger of the 5 blues weight was 27lbs. Next fish quick release. Karen with another quick release. In june we saw high water with heavy current and lots of drift, finally the river has calmed and cleared. As always click on the pic for full image. Pictured here a 22lb blue cat taken in heavy current on live shad. These fish were holding on the head of a hole (drop off) I was using 1 lb of weight on each bait just to hold it on bottom. Had one other good fish, but lost it-(straightend the 2/0 whisker sticker). I have since switched to mustad 37140 wide gap hooks.

These cats were taken in the middle of winter with a water temp near the 30 degree mark. Feb8 water temp in mid to low 30's, I was fishing a ledge that dropped to 55 feet from 45 feet using a small shad fillet on the shank of the hook and tipped with shad guts. I prefer live shad, but when the fish aren't biting you need to make a change. I switched to shad gut and started catching cats. Jan 15, 2000. One of the keys to winter catfishing is to downsize your hook, bait and sinker. See the tips page.
