Just another WordPress.com site. Skip to primary content. My Bell Family Ancestors – George Bell (1817-1894) – Red Herrings Sorted. February 1, 2016. In an earlier blog I wrote about the puzzle concerning the arrival of my ancestor George Bell into Australia, and the fact that he might have been a convict on board the convict ship ‘Asia’ in 1837. At fist glance it looked as if the family might have been trying to cover up the fact. The Captain was required to keep a log of all the details of the voyage.

According to Sand’s Directories they were general merchants and importers in Sydney, at least in the 1870 and 1880, and perhaps later. It would app...

When war broke out in 1914, Kenneth Vidler was eager to go, as he found his employment as a clerk a bit too tame for his liking. He enlisted Australian Imperial Forces in Brisbane on 19 September 1914. After several weeks training he embarked for Egypt on the troopship. Just before Christmas on 22 December 1914. Harefield Park House was u...

https://courtlodgeestate.wordpress.com/2014/11/11/a-license-to-use-powder
The story of our restoration of an 18th Century Manor House and Garden in Kent. A license to… use powder? At our visit to the archives the other day, Ian and I came across the following intriguing envelope:. Why would my ancestors need a license to use powder? Ann Morland (nee Matson) as a young woman. Ann Morland as an older woman, perhaps at the time she was living in Kendal. What truly amazes me about this discovery is that these hair powder licenses were. And there is another powder license in the na...
