The Hygiene Hypothesis: Probably the one idea in Immunology that annoys me the most. It bugs me, drives me nuts, nevertheless it has held and persevered for nearly twenty years. So there must be something to it, and I must shelve my prejudices and look into it. Let me try and explain. Not entirely, and these are my reasons.

Directing Cells: Vitamins instruct the Immune System. CCR10 is not found on all T cells by default, it has to be induced or brought out on to the surface. PhD = Pretty huge Dork. There's no crying in grad school! Wednesday, May 2, 2007. Out of the Dark Age. My department is famous, unfortunately, for being rather male-dominated. Out of 30 full-time faculty, only one is a woman. There is hope however, in that the department is going on an all out hiring binge that will hopefully bring in more folks than old, white dudes (very Texas, no? For real, though. Ok Some brilliant scientist really needs to do a study on how time flies! I am an official PhD candidate!
