In November 2004 a group of enthusiasts formed the Ohau Conservation Trust under the guidance of the Department of Conservation. The Trust aims to promote awareness of the Lake Ohau areas unique biodiversity, and the need to preserve it. We also work actively ourselves; which means clearing weeds - lots of weeds! Then replanting with eco-sourced native species. Trust members are determined to protect and preserve the unique Ohau Area.

Work Days - please come join us . Over the past 11 years, keen volunteers have undertaken a series of working bees clearing wilding (self-seeding) conifers, sweetbriar and broom from roadsides and public conservation land around Lake Ohau. Regular passersby comment on the greatly improved appearance of the cleared areas. Regular Trust working bees generally involve removing wilding pines and planting. Outings for 2016 are scheduled on the following dates:. 7 February (Waitangi Weekend).
