Torrent of Consciousness: January 2015
http://chovblog.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Friday, 30 January 2015. Your Freedom Ends Where It Impacts Mine, Mate. Yesterday I rambled on about lines and limitations with regard to personal eccentricities and taste and how it all affects others. It isn't a big deal until there is power and authority involved. And then it's a very big deal. The difference between shame and guilt may seem subtle, but it is significantly different in that the person who is shamed is told that his transgression affects the whole of society. To us this is hard to ...

Rutabaga Dreams: June 2014
http://rutabagadreams.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 17 June 2014. I eat a sandwich virtually ever day. Have done my whole life. Isn't that a bit boring? No Actually, no. Lots of variety possible. There is something deeply cultural about it. Somehow, probably because it was cheap and easy, I grew up thinking that lumch and sandwich were synonymous. Lunchtime? But I'm also very fond of elaborate sandwiches, crusty French bread split lengthwise and stuffed full of all manner of salads, meat, and condiments. The first issue is the bread. There wa...

Rutabaga Dreams: March 2015
http://rutabagadreams.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, 19 March 2015. In fact I eat most regular foods. There are, for example, very few vegetables I don't like. In a world where some simply don't eat vegetables, or only do so because they feel they ought to, rather than enjoying them, I am far less picky there. 1 Obtain a good bun. 2 Go without a bun. The latter is a great low carb option anyway. I bet I eat, and enjoy, a longer list of foods than most people, actually. No, my tastes issues are quite specific. Mostly to do with quality. I ...The r...

Torrent of Consciousness: A Short Course In Mindfulness - 7 - Sympathy
http://chovblog.blogspot.com/2015/07/a-short-course-in-mindfulness-7-sympathy.html
Saturday, 25 July 2015. A Short Course In Mindfulness - 7 - Sympathy. What I'm saying is that if you choose to do this, you'll be glad you did. But I'm not pushy about it for the simple reason that it truly must be a personal decision. It doesn't mean that you have to actually be cruel to everyone else, and yet for some that is indeed what they do. They are rude or even spiteful to people not in their inner circle. Why? Is sympathy a step on the way to mindfulness, or vice versa? The Chinese philosopher ...

Torrent of Consciousness: November 2014
http://chovblog.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Saturday, 29 November 2014. Whatever Floats Your Boat. It began with a chance posting by a friend, of this "meme". I happen to feel very, very strongly about this. Cross-dressing in itself is just one aspect of the whole issue, but it's the one that gets most attention so I'll come back to that. The darkest side of it all. The problem (when we are talking about pleasures of the flesh) is that the line between seduction and coercion is a bit vague. So there's that. Relationships, they recognized it well.

Torrent of Consciousness: May 2015
http://chovblog.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, 30 May 2015. One Step Forward, Two Back. As it's Saturday I won't make you brain hurt too much with philosophy, I'm just going to go on a rant. Http:/ www.upworthy.com/after-cannes-turned-away-women-wearing-flats-actress-rashida-jones-responded-with-her-own-rule. Never mind older women, or people with medical conditions, it's par for the course they have to explain themselves. What about ordinary, healthy women who prefer not to walk on stilts? But when you ask people to do something very uncom...

Torrent of Consciousness: Truth? You Can't Handle The Truth
http://chovblog.blogspot.com/2015/05/truth-you-cant-handle-truth.html
Tuesday, 19 May 2015. You Can't Handle The Truth. Initially this post was going to be about Richard Dawkins. I'm still going to include him, and what brought him up, but I'm going to broaden it out to a phenomenon that's not new, but has become so easy these days, thanks to the internet. But plenty of peer reviews and fact checks. FREE SPEECH! I have enjoyed the internet more than I can express. I first came online in early 1997 and I've never looked back. Learning? One of the rules of debate is "no ad h...

Rutabaga Dreams: July 2014
http://rutabagadreams.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, 19 July 2014. I never finish learning, and today I learned that pigs in a blanket is NOT the same as a sausage roll. Anyway, this is how you make sausage rolls. But we have developed a taste for a pastry that is halfway between the two, and the recipe is printed on a brand-name lard here in Canada, called Tenderflake. The Tenderflake recipe is so good, that frankly we don't bother with anything else. You'll find it in detail here:. Http:/ www.thekitchenmagpie.com/tenderflake-recipe. First time ...
