August Ruminations | On the Homefront
https://onthehomefrontandbeyond.wordpress.com/2015/08/04/august-ruminations
Reflections on life: the funny, poignant, serious and quirky. Anyway, I digress (there is such freedom in digression not having to stay on topic, no particular beginning, middle or end; no particular point to make; no, what is that word I find intriguing but can never remember denouement or proper conclusion). I recommend this book to anyone, who, like me, is trying to convince themselves that creativity does not necessarily come from chaos. Or, if you just want to find that other blue suede shoe. I just...

Reflections on life: the funny, poignant, serious and quirky. Two Peas in A Pod. 8220;Maybe, although in spite of the fact that I love the idea of self-improvement, I tend to get a little annoyed by the notion I should actually change any of my behaviour to make it happen.” Rebecca Barry. This is so me! This is one of my favourite books–ever. Keep in mind though, that every good book I read is my favourite book ever. So what is your favourite book–ever? The one you are reading now, or one in particular.
In Defence of the Weather | On the Homefront

Reflections on life: the funny, poignant, serious and quirky. In Defence of the Weather. TED talks usually range from about two minutes to twenty and can be on any topic under the sun (or moon depending on the time of day you tune in). How are the talks selected? I think the assessment that people do not really want to talk about the weather is wrong. Asserting that nobody really wants to talk about the weather is meant to draw us in to talks that are deemed more interesting but if you get to the roo...

A Glass of Vino | On the Homefront

Reflections on life: the funny, poignant, serious and quirky. A Glass of Vino. Why don’t you just go begging on the street corner? This was a response I received on Kijiji this week after placing a free ad asking for a particular article I was interested in obtaining. Inadvertently I put in an incorrect sum I was willing to pay for said article. What I was asking for and the sum I put in were completely incongruent, thus the above response from someone seemingly outraged by my stupidity . Have you had an...

Coffee roaster. Cast iron whisperer. Shameless non-profiteer. Scouter. First-class snark. All photography is my own. My Bad Heart →. Also, cooking with cast iron is NOT scary. Since my wife is the head chef of our house AND she has wholeheartedly supported my scouting lifestyle, I bought my wife the nicest thing I could afford: The official, licensed, Boy Scouts of America 10″ cast-iron frying pan. We were now officially terrified of cast iron. Here are some benefits to cooking with cast iron:. It’...

May 27, 2013. But I know…. Made more perfect by the unaware. 8220;All I ever want is just to fall into your human hands.” -Elvis Costello. Rarely am I inspired to write a poem, but I’ve encountered hands so heavenly, that I had no choice but to scribble a few lines together to satisfy my need. If I haven’t done them justice, imagine hands so gorgeous, that they would compel me, Lisa, to write a poem. That’s the idea. Category : No category. April 30, 2013. Apparently the Simplicity pattern lady will dance to anything. I think we can all agree she has some sweet moves, not unlike a metronome. I only wish I had that outfit. (For the best effect play the song I’ve chosen at the bottom of the post.). This may be something only a cat lover would enjoy. Then again, I’m sure we’ve all had relationships like this. If you’re a mom, it’s likely you’ve suffered the figurative foot in the face on many occasions. Who doesn’t LOVE Bobby Sherman? If she o...

Reflections on life: the funny, poignant, serious and quirky. On March 28, 2018 at 3:30 pm Comments (1). Most of us have fond memories of food from our childhood. Whether it was our Mom’s homemade lasagna or memorable birthday cake, food has a way of transporting us back to the past. Homaro Canto. We will have lamb and little red potatoes, some asparagus (and peas for those who refuse to eat the asparagus), and the requisite mint sauce (which goes wonderfully with peas and potatoes and lamb). Dessert?
