Jabal al-Lughat: How Korandje made "with" agree it-with its subject
http://lughat.blogspot.com/2015/06/how-korandje-made-with-agree-it-with.html
Climbing the Mountain of Languages. Saturday, June 27, 2015. How Korandje made "with" agree it-with its subject. Korandje, the language of Tabelbala in southwestern Algeria, requires the comitative preposition "with" to agree in person and number, not with its object, but with its subject (strictly speaking, with its external argument):. ʕan bạ-yu ʕ-indz uɣudz əgga ʕa-b-yəxdəm. My friend-s I-with whom PAST I-IMPF-work. My friends with whom I was working". Lameen Souag الأمين سواق. 27 June, 2015 18:34.

Geography-constrained family trees? | Freelance reconstruction
https://protouralic.wordpress.com/2015/05/22/geography-constrained-family-trees
Thinking out loud on historical linguistics. A complaint that often comes up in introductions to studies on computational phylogenetics is that the number of possible binary trees grows quite fast (loosely factorialesquely) as a function of the number of entities we are attempting to relate. This means that regardless of what method is being used, it is for larger datasets usually not possible to investigate all possible trees on how well they would fit the data. If given a western dialect A, a central d...

Sonntag, 2. November 2014. This is not supposed to be a review – I’ll just quote a few facts that were new to me as an amateur interested in languages, and may be interesting to the readers of this blog as well:. After the Norman conquest, Malta came under strong Italian influence, first by Sicilian (11. Century) and then by Standard Italian (from the 16. Compared to Maghre...

Etymolist: August 2008

Dienstag, 19. August 2008. The idea for this project was born while I was working on my conlang, Tautisca. As Tautisca is an IE-based a-posteriori languages, I can't just construct words by randomly jumbling the allowed phonemes of my language or make them up in any other way I fancy. I have to go back to the reconstructed roots and lexemes of PIE (Proto-Indo-European) and derive the Tautisca lexicon from there. For this, it is good to know which etymological developments are attestested.
