PCEG’s project for the millennium was "Our Common Story". We held an exhibition at The Citizen's Gallery in Woolwich in which was an astounding success. Many people came and added their reminiscences to the exhibition which consequently grew in size and depth while it was on. Our Common Story" Book Order. We always welcome new members and are also keen to involve schools in our activities. Becoming a member of PCEG commits you to as little or as much involvement as you feel able to offer. Regular volunteer work takes place at The Slade Ponds. On the second and fourth Sundays of each month and at the Plumstead Common Nature Reserve. On the last Saturday of each month, both starting at 11am. If you would like to be involved, just turn up. Litterpickers and bags can be provided. Make a Difference Days.

As a contribution to the national Big Tidy Up campaign, the PCEG organises a series of Make a Difference Days when we hope to get the local community involved in caring for the wonderful green space so close to their homes. The first MAD day was in April 2010. We concentrated on the western end of the common, including the Plumstead Common Nature Reserve. The area now supports thriving wildlife. A heron visits regularly, and someone released a terrapin into the pond which has survived quite healthily for some years! A colony of rats which cause a bit of controversy, but they are supported by the large quantities of bread that are thrown into the pond that the ducks don't actually need! Two hour's pickings in and around the pond . . . Not everything changes for the worse. On the right is a postcard of the Slade Ponds a hundred years ago!

I have learned more about Islam and consumption and the meaning of halal. Tuesday, 10 February 2009. Been a while but thought I'd let rip a little about a prime example of awful customer service. The doorbell went this evening around 8.20 and I was greeted by a young man holding out a scruffy ID paper (no picture on it). He started a well-worn schpiel about raising money for homeless people and just carried on regardless, oblivious to my polite requests to keep the level down as our daughter was asleep.
