Monday, July 2, 2012. The Sensitive Period For Order. After the age of one, many parents begin to see the early signs of what is frequently dubbed as the "terrible twos." What many parents don't realize is that this behavior has a very direct cause and can be linked to a very necessary developmental process in the brain: the Sensitive Period for Order. This. Hildren may fall apart when their routine is changed. C. The root of that confusion lies in what defines t. The child usually will have one of two r...

More Than Just Montessori: The C-Section That Healed Me
http://morethanjustmontessori.blogspot.com/2014/02/the-c-section-that-healed-me.html
Thursday, February 20, 2014. The C-Section That Healed Me. On November 25, my darling girl was brought into the world. Even though it was not what I hoped for her, her birth healed me. I didn't even know I was still hurting. I had never wanted hospital births for my two children. I think a home birth would have been a wonderful experience, although I will never know if it would have been successful or safe (for me. I want to emphasize that because I do believe in assisted home births ). I got to push!

More Than Just Montessori: Defenestration: Abandoning The Rules Of Our Own Childhoods
http://morethanjustmontessori.blogspot.com/2013/03/defenestration-abandoning-rules-of-our.html
Monday, March 4, 2013. Defenestration: Abandoning The Rules Of Our Own Childhoods. I heard something the other day that got me thinking about rules. A parent was reporting about how dinner was going at home, and proudly mentioned that in this family's home if you did not eat your dinner you went straight to bed. The child living by this rule was about 21 months old. I do not know whether or not the child in question chose bed or dinner, but it made me wonder, how. Campaign by the U.S. Government ...Desse...

More Than Just Montessori: Difficult Birth: Even Trauma Has A Silver Lining
http://morethanjustmontessori.blogspot.com/2011/03/difficult-birth-even-trauma-has-silver.html
Saturday, March 26, 2011. Difficult Birth: Even Trauma Has A Silver Lining. Before arriving home, we decided to stop by my chiropractor who I had called that morning. We went straight from the hospital and she gave me and adjustment. I was hoping that this would speed things up or slow them down. After checking me she thought my son was in a great position and that we'd probably see a baby by the end of the day! At the hospital, I was 5 centimeters dilated. Progress! When my midwife said "Pitocin" and "e...

More Than Just Montessori: The Montessori-inspired Nursery: Floor Beds and Independence
http://morethanjustmontessori.blogspot.com/2011/03/montessori-inspired-nursery-floor-beds.html
Thursday, March 3, 2011. The Montessori-inspired Nursery: Floor Beds and Independence. After learning I was successful in trying to become a mother, my thoughts began to drift to the nursery. Where would we put it? What would it look like? How do I make it an independent place for my child, yet meet all of our safety concerns and daily needs as parents? I first encountered a series of wonderful articles from Eco-Child's Play ( http:/ ecochildsplay.com/2009/01/15/baby-essentials-that-arent-1/. His initial...

More Than Just Montessori: October 2013
http://morethanjustmontessori.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 1, 2013. I Was Mean Today. It's so hard to be a patient mom sometimes. It's so hard to be positive and understanding and thinking about everyone but yourself when all you feel like doing is just curling up in a corner. There are moments when all your patience is wasted and you're just grasping at straws. And in those moments, sometimes you just have to face the cold, hard, guilt-ridden facts. I was mean today. I wasn't my best today. Mommy was mean today," I said. Does mommy love you?

Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Here We Go Again! Preparing for the Second Time Around. I've been absent for a long time again; I'm a terrible blogger. I'd like to say it's because I'm not the least bit narcissistic and I don't jump to tell everyone my every thought.but, most people who know me well wouldn't say that's entirely true (and they need not comment about it here either! Toddler, household chores, part time job. And well, there's this:. Where is baby going to sleep? When will your son stop nursing?

More Than Just Montessori: The Magic Of The Montessori Classroom
http://morethanjustmontessori.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-magic-of-montessori-classroom.html
Tuesday, November 27, 2012. The Magic Of The Montessori Classroom. Today, however, I was reminded of why I fell in love with Montessori. I decided to spend a little time of my morning in the primary classrooms at the school. As quiet as can be, I took my place in a little chair in part of the room to just sit and observe. I let the peace wash over me. What's your favorite thing about the Montessori classroom? January 20, 2016 at 8:23 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Sensitive Period For Order.

More Than Just Montessori: September 2013
http://morethanjustmontessori.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, September 26, 2013. What IS A Complete Family? When you get to be eight months pregnant, it becomes an open topic of conversation you must have with strangers. No longer do they glance at you silently, wondering but not daring to ask; their glances turn into outright questions and remarks. Don't get me wrong; I'm not complaining, entirely. It's wonderful to hear " what a lovely pregnant belly. Extremely bizarre, yes, but nice all the same. Me: *dumbfounded look, weak smile, and no response*.
